DJL 235 #26 February 11, 2009 There are some moving companies who don't own trucks, they just sub the work out to someone else. They start by making claims of an exact amount/time and then start tacking on extras at an incredible rate. My friend had these guys moving her stuff and told her that she should protect her matress from getting scratches, so with us standing there (me thinking "what the fuck is this") they wrapped it with 6 blankets and several roles of wrap - and that was just one item. Then when it came time to pay up they had added another 15 dollars for every blanket and roll and added another $500 to the job. Research your moving company. They're even more slimey than auto mechanics."I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

doug925 0 #38 February 11, 2009 D, I hope it works out for you. FYI, if you or anybody else has to move in/around the Houston/ Austin corridor use 3 Men Movers! I have been burned in the past by shady places like Apt. Movers etc.(totally suck! never use them ) But 3 Men Movers are top notch! I have used them 2 times now. Both times they arrived within a minute or two of promised arrival time. They took great care of my furniture and possessions, and have always been fast and professional. (I am in no way affiliated with them blah blah blah) Just a great company to deal with.Doug. I have never developed indigestion from eating my words. Pinna 0 #39 February 11, 2009 I used Starving Students once. 10AM start time. No show all day until around 5:30 two guys show up with a truck. Since I was only moving about a mile away, they told me to call the company and tell them that they never showed up. They then proceeded to move me out and into my new place in record time where I paid the guys cash for a third of the price the company originally quoted me! Whatever works... wmw999 2,444 #40 February 11, 2009 Local moves are way different from inter-city moves. And small-house inter-city moves are different from big-house ones. If your stuff is the vast majority of what's in the truck, they're going to go when they load it. But if your stuff is sitting in a storage facility waiting for a truck that's a. going your way (eventually) b. has just the right amount of space that can be a long wait. Which really sucks. And yeah, they'll say anything to get the booking. Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. d_squared431 0 #41 February 12, 2009 At 732am the driver is late and I called to find out where he is. The guy was sleeping then tells me he won't be here for another 30-40minutes. Which in anyones book that is an hour. I asked why he told me 7am on the dot and is not here or why he didn't call to tell me another time frame? Then he say he is just going to take my stuff back to the warehouse. So I called the main companies emergency line and woke some lady up. She was not happy so who knows if my furniture will be here. Told the lady if the driver does not deliver my furniture within the hour and heads back to Miami I will take them to small claims court. 20 minutes later the truck got here but it was only the driver, he didn't bring anyone with him. So it is one guy moving my furniture in.. my mattresses are soaking wet, and my small couch is wet as well and looks stained. My coaches are white and I don't think it can be cleaned. As the guy was moving my hida bed in it fell against the wall putting a nice hole and a few scratches in the wall. Sigh... I guess now it is the going to be a back and forth thing to get new mattresses and my couch taken care of. LisaH 0 #43 February 12, 2009 Oh Deedy. I'm so sorry to hear this. The couches can be cleaned, but it's going to be a big pain in the ass. Toss the mattresses, you'll never get the mildew out of the inside of them. Did you call the company and tell them of the damage he did to the wall? Be yourself! d_squared431 0 #46 February 12, 2009 I am not sure I should say what company in the forums cause that wouldn't be right. I will let you know in a PM. Lisa, I can't toss the mattresses yet. The couches are a type of cotton and dont think they can be cleaned without destroying the couch. the company is on the west coast so I will be calling them at 9 am their time. I just glad I have an air mattress and a hida bed couch I can sleep on for a bit..TPM Sister#130ONTIG#1 I love vodka.I love vodka cause it rhymes with Tuaca~LisaH You having a clean thought is like billyvance having a clean post.iluvtofly
BillyVance 34 #47 February 12, 2009 Sorry to see you are having so much shit from this one company. It's hard sometimes when you are alone/independent. It's been a long time, at least 20 years, but my dad had to move his mom (my grandmother) out of her house and into a nursing home and pretty much empty her house and sell it. I don't know how the hell he did it, but we pretty much assumed the entire contents into our house along with our own stuff. Her furniture and stuff filled almost a whole 18 wheeler and we used Allied Movers, I think, I rememer the logo was of a road and some symbol on the side. They did a great job from what I remember and my dad only moved the fragile stuff himself in our Dodge van with all the bench seats removed, such as the 170 year old grandfather clock, etc. So far, I have never needed to hire a moving company. Ever since I struck out on my own, I've moved my own stuff or had friends help me, and once my wife and I rented a 14 foot van up in CT when her mom moved out of her house and needed to get rid of a bunch of stuff, and we packed up what we could and drove over 1000 miles to home. Now we have enough stuff that the next move is likely going to require hiring a moving company as I am getting too old to be moving all my big/heavy furniture. I just hope I get the right one when the time comes."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban

d_squared431 0 #50 February 12, 2009 QuoteIs the company that you used on this website? http://www.movingscam.com/ No they are not on there. They are a very well known company and prior to picking them I looked to see if there were any reports on them and they seemed to be okay. So far I have wet mattresses, a couch that may not be able to be cleaned and some missing items. I found a little video clip i made of everything an hr before the movers picked my stuff up. Noticed the missing items from the video. The video shows all my furniture in excellent condition as well. I did call the company and they told me to take pictures and or videos, write a list of damaged goods and missing, then email it to them. they will replace and or fix, find all the items missing, and arrange to pick up items that are not mine. Yes, I got someone else things as well.TPM Sister#130ONTIG#1 I love vodka.I love vodka cause it rhymes with Tuaca~LisaH You having a clean thought is like billyvance having a clean post.iluvtofly
