I find it to be a somewhat lame response in that it in an attempt to be brief, it actually degrades the signal to noise ratio rather than improves it.

More bandwidth is being used by the headers than the message itself.

How about a "rate this post" option? 1-5 stars. People can sort through by quality, rather than quantity.



The idea has been discussed. I believe Sangiro didn't like the idea of popularity contests which we pretty much all agreed is something it would just devolve into. Same reason the site doesn't do "karma points" or anything else like that. Articles have a rating system applied to them, but not the posts in forums. Seems a bit more appropriate and general members of the site don't get any artificial boost in status.

Only marginally. It's supposed to be a discussion forum. If a person is in complete agreement it doesn't move the discussion forward if nothing is added or debated.
