I want to thank all of the people that related to me that they thought this was a great contest idea. I hope that they enjoyed their moments as much as I enjoyed reading the stories and viewing the pictures. Remember as you start to place your vote, this contest was all about "stopping and smelling the roses." I want to remind you that we are voting for the quality of the "moment" not the quality of the "picture!" Since I have discovered that everyone tends to be a bit of procrastinator, I am going to give everyone until Saturday, February 14'th to place their vote. boinky 0 #2 February 12, 2009 Entry #1 My moment occured this morning as I was preparing my breakfast. I was at the kitchen counter and glanced up to look through the windows because I could tell that the light had changed outside with the sun coming up. I love seeing a sunrise! Low and behold, these Sandhill Cranes were standing in my neighbor's yard, I didn't even know they were there. They didn't make any noise, they were so intent on finding their breakfast. Seeing the sun cast an orange glow off the water and then seeing the birds there made me feel like I was out in the country somewhere, not in the middle of a regular subdivison. I had to go outside my screen to take the picture; as I crept forward, it looks like they are more interested in watching me than I was in watching them! It's hard to tell in the picture how warm the whole scene was, but I'll just tell you- it was a beautiful and calming way to start the day! :)Nina Are we called "DAWGs" because we stick our noses up people's butts? It was a moment when I walked out onto the balcony took a deep breath and remembered how lucky we are to have this wonderful world around us. The sunset was so awesome reflecting on the lake it was difficult to tell which way was up and which way was down. The lake was so calm that it even showed the stars at night. boinky 0 #5 February 12, 2009 Entry #4 This is a picture that makes me giggle. This is from my back yard, at my "squirrel resistant" birdfeeder. Works well, huh? The holes close when weight is on the bird ledge, so the squirrel quickly found his way around that one. I didn't have the heart to shoo him away because he was working so hard to get some food. Somehow over the course of 30 years I wandered from the front of the stage to the back of the house, then into management and then, somehow after 30 years of working for one of the largest entertainment companies on the planet, the bean counters figured I was no longer of any value. Last Friday night I didn't work for one of the largest companies on the planet, but got together with some writer and actor friends of mine to do a sketch show in a grungy little hole in the wall comedy club that's been on Hollywood Blvd for roughly 30 years. This is where I should have been 30 years ago. This is me starting over 30 years later. This is me thinking about this 15 minutes before the house lights fade out, the music stops and I say my first line. No, I'm not in any of these pictures you see here. Both looked like they were having huge amounts of fun and whipping up the snow. boinky 0 #9 February 12, 2009 Entries #8 & #9 After about a week of overcast and rainy skies, I woke up last week on a Tuesday morning earlier than usual, but was unable to get back to sleep. I had a lot of paperwork to catch up on. Well, it was indeed cold. I planned to walk straight inside, shut the door to my cave of a shop, and get to work. I stopped short of the door, looked to my right, and saw the red and orange glow of a rising sun. I quickly went inside to grab my camera. I dropped the tailgate of our truck and sat my keester down to enjoy. My supervisor arrived, got out of his car, and as he headed for the door, gave me an odd look and asked me, "What the hell are you doin'?" I just shrugged and said, "I dunno... just watching." With a look of indifference, he headed inside and I remained to finish my sunrise in peace. A cup of hot coffee would've been nice, but I was content with where I was. That was the first sunrise I've watched and I haven't seen one since as I haven't woken up that early unnecessarily since, but I have the pictures on my camera as proof, and I have the memory in my mind for when I run out of batteries in the camera or need to just space out for a bit.Nina Are we called "DAWGs" because we stick our noses up people's butts?
