Voodoo rig

Recommended Posts

it's the only rig with a vagina embroidered on it (sure - you can call it an eye, but "we know" what it really is)
Pete Draper,

Just because my life plan is written on the back of a Hooter's Napkin, it's still a life plan.... right?

Great rigs - I've had two of them. The harness is very comfy and the container is bombproof in terms of flaps and riser covers. Some of the early models had some issues with the riser covers. I personally don't think they look as good in the larger sizes though.

This is what I know about them and what I have been told by people that have worked for RI, riggers, etc...

The harness is the same as the Talon FS and is awesome. Easily as good as the Mirage or Jav Odyssey. I personally loved it and have about 50 jumps on 3 different Talon FSs.

The Voodoo is a bit of a pain to pack due to its odd shape which doesn't last over time (comment attributed to a professional rigger/packer).

Resale is not very good, but if you plan to keep it for a long time, who cares.

Excellent freefly rig and I know several people in the 5000+ jump range that use them.

I prefer Mirages, but Voodoo/Talon FS are a close second IMHO.

The first rig I bought for myself was a Talon and I loved everything about it; comfort, looks, and how innovative (at the time) it was. While I jump a vector now, I will more than likely go to a Voodoo when skyhook is licensed and I downsize.

BTW, I never had a malfunction with that rig (over 300 jumps during my previous jump life in the 90s) and I think that is pretty cool.

The leg strap angle tends to be very vertical in relation to the torso which I find uncomfortable, and the three rings seem to regularly sit a bit higher on the shoulders than I like.

Just my opinion.

You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

My husband has jumped a very broad range of containers. He still claims that his Voodoo was the most comfortable rig he ever owned.

My customer feedback on the Voodoo is great. Those that jump them, love them.

I have not seen anything negative about the resale value. I've sold a few resale. They were well taken care of, and resold easily....

.....that is unless they had a big dragon fly on the main flap!

The only thing I don't like much is the fact that they're made for one size canopy

There not made for one size of canopy, they're made for a small range of sizes, just like any other container. The fact that the closing loop is attached to the bottom flap makes it more difficult to put something way too small in the Voodoo, but doing that on any other rig is usually a stupid thing to do anyway. Most of the Javelins, for example, I see with flaps and riser covers blowing open have a main in them too small for the container.

If I remember right what riggers told me, it's the fact that if you push the sides of the container closer together, by putting in a smaller canopy, the riser covers move furhter over over the reserve container, and because there's a special shape spring in there it may have trouble getting out.

Something like that anyway, I'm no rigger.

These rigs definately don't look good anymore with a different (even one size) canopy in them, the smaller rigs I've seen at least. The 170 rig may not be so bad.

Yeah the bottom flap loop doesn't help with that, I jumped a mirage this weekend with a too small vengeance in it, the loop was at the bottom flap instead of at the bottom of the container, even though there's a spot for it there as well. I had to replace the loop, the knot in the loop was slightly through the hole in the loop! (Eh does that make sense? The loop could not be any shorter...) :S

I'm not sure where that idea came from. There is nothing to inhibit the launch of the VooDoo pilotchute no matter what size main is used. The reserve system is quite rigger friendly and packing the main is packer friendly. It takes a couple pack jobs to figure out that there's no real trick to closing the main. Just put the bag in and close it.

The main container will hold more than one size canopy however too small of a canopy is a poor idea since there is no pressure from the canopy filling the main area.

The 3 rings do sit up higher as mentioned by JP, so try one out to see if feels ok. They hold their value. ... except of course the huge one with the big ole dragonfly on it ....

It's a nice streamlined rig. I'd consider the VooDoo if I wasn't already sold on the Infinity.

It's not embroidered on, it's appliqued on. Embroidery is done with thread, applique is done with fabric.

I stand corrected! :P
