What is the "dropzone.com" of Scuba? Best Cozumel Dives?

Recommended Posts

Hi! Dropzone.com is THE community for skydiving so I was wondering if there was a similar dominant site for Scuba.

I notice a lot of jumpers are also scuba divers so I thought I could save a bit time and searching if I asked you guys.

I'm heading to Cozumel in week. I'm a licensed diver and will defenitely do some diving. I just don't have much time to plan/research things so I'm asking for advice. As I really only dive when I travel I'm not up on the good scuba forum sites. Could you recommend a good scuba forum.

So, if any of you are familiar with Cozumel could you give me your opinion of the best dives and why? I'm interested in differnt things - lots of life and color which tend to be shallower, bigger stuff coral/fish etc which tend to be deeper, intersting terrain etc.

Could you suggest reputable, reasonably priced dive shop/master?

Also, if you had to pick one or two cenote dives on the mainland, what would it be. I was thinking of the Dos Ojos dive. (backup daytrip for cloudy days)

thanks for any advice

rj

Are you planning to go out alone? Or are you chartering your dives? I've been to Cozumel about a dozen times now, and all but twice I went with a charter from the island...and that way, you are ensured of a good dive.

The two we did ourselves were hectic, having to plan for retrieval with the current and all.

The ones that were with a dive operator were great! They do all the pre-planning, they take care of your gear in between dives (switching tanks, etc.) and they know what sites are prime for the weather conditions.

I would recommend just contacting one of the many dive operators on the island (most are located at the resorts, but anyone can go on the dives...) and sign on there! If you need any other info, PM me...

We will go with a group/dive master as we dive infrequently. I'll send you a PM.

Thanks

I will be leaving for Coz on the 14th, my 25th trip there. For cenotes, yes, Dos Ojos, and try to see Angelita - a sink hole to 190ft with a thermocline/fog layer from fresh to salt at about 100ft - absolutely spectacular.

In coz, many great dives. Some of my favs, SantaRosa wall, Columbia deep, Devils throat, Punta Teniche, Tormentos, Barracuda (most operators don't go there), anyof the Palancar dives are great, but tons of divers there usually. Water is a little cool for there right now, 77-79 degrees, so take a full wet suit, and consider a hood.

Dive safe,

Doc
