bwilling 0 #27 January 21, 2009 QuotePersonally i dont like the partitioned hard drive with the manufactures version of windows because of all the junk programs they put on it, complete waste of space Buy business class machines from someone like CDW or Provantage... they come with much less junk on them than the consumer class machines! I recommend that people get their machines set up to their liking, then use something like Acronis True Image to build their own image on a removable drive of some sort... it's the easiest way to restore the machine back to that state, and offers some redundancy in the event of a disk failure. What i usually do is just build my own personal computers. my desktop is completely custom made with all the stuff i wanted and a nice clean version of windows, that way when i format i dotn have to worry bout anything..... The laptop on the other hand was pretty well bought on a "i need a laptop i'll get the first one i find thing" Tempted to change the small HD out for a nice large one and replace the OS with something useful that doesnt have 50 million different programsThe Altitude above you, the runway behind you, and the fuel not in the plane are totally worthless Dudeist Skydiver #

LaRusic 0 #30 January 21, 2009 Quote thanks for the key offer, but i think i've got it now. i don't want a duel os, it just wouldn't let me delete the partition. i went in to bios and made only boot from the cd and it then allowed me to delete and reformat the partition and it is now in the process of loading the proper windows os. game on, now ya just gotta remember where that pesky sticker is The Altitude above you, the runway behind you, and the fuel not in the plane are totally worthless Dudeist Skydiver #

prodiver913 0 #32 January 22, 2009 Macs are faster than the fastest windows operating PC and guess what... they DO NOT get viruses. At all. Did anyone read that article about that guy who was offered like $100,000 to write a virus for a mac and couldn't do it. Google it or something and you can read for yourself. I have had my Macbook for about a year and my parents have had their iMac for 5 years. Zero problems. none at all. Not even small problems. All my friends have problems with their windows based OS within months or something else stupid happens to it. No virus software needed on Macs, updates automatically. You can do anything with them. No wonder why most of Hollywood uses them for editing and guess what? The CIA and NSA all have Apple contracts because they are superior to any other OS out there. Who gives a shit that they cost double. I would rather pay $1500-$2000 every 3 or 4 years then the $700-$1000 every year or so. Plus I love not having to purchase any anti-virus software at all. After you buy it, it's free. Windows blows, end of story. All I ever hear on this site is people having trouble with there pc's. How come you never hear Mac problems? I wonder......... superior. Fuck the money. It's way worth it in the end next to a dying company with a piece of shit OS. You gotta pay to play. I'm completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. My idea is that these two institutions screw us up enough on their own, so both of them together is certain death.
theonlyski 8 #33 January 22, 2009 i bought a new 250 gb sata for my laptop a couple years back and ditched the 60 gb... cant complain! i partitioned it 3 ways: 40 gb for my install drive, 10 gb for my linux drive, and the rest ~200 gb for my storage (install apps, music, pics, movies) so if i get the urge to format the os, i just have to change one setting (pointer to my documents) and pretty much back to normal. just install what i want and be on my waymany years of loosing all my stuff because the os crapped out on me got me to start doing it this way, and 0 issues since. I also keep an external terrabyte hdd and once in a while ill sync what i have to it. (only using about 600 gb of that puppy) "I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message

I think the problem with Macs are that people are very set in their PC ways. yes a mac is fairly easy to use, its hard for some people to make the switch. Thankfully the software compatiblity isnt much of a problem anymore. The Altitude above you, the runway behind you, and the fuel not in the plane are totally worthless Dudeist Skydiver #

LaRusic 0 #36 January 22, 2009 Quotewell that and the lack of servers and any type of enterprise tools and support...... lack of servers and enterprise tools yes, but to a person who is using this as a personal computer i dont really think that is much of an issue, buisness yes i can def see it being and issue also with the support. on the personal side of things, lets be honest the microsoft support is sketch on the best of days and any time u take a pc into a tech, all they will do is format it and say here ya go. Both platforms have their good and bad pointsThe Altitude above you, the runway behind you, and the fuel not in the plane are totally worthless Dudeist Skydiver #
normiss 851 #37 January 22, 2009 The problem with separating home and personal use becomes a matter of portability at times. If I use word at work, I want word at home. Mac's don't have the game software that wintel machines do. I've never used microsnot support, so I wouldn't know whether it's good or bad. My guess is, like all of IT shops these days, some of it's outsourced and you get what you pay for there. I would however disagree with format being the only result of a tech working on a wintel machine - if it is, they clearly don't understand the operating system. Apple is ok, if you want to play by their rules as they don't have the flexibility the wintel platform does. Given the health condition of their visionary, I am doubtful of their future as well. Next thing I'll hear...*nix is the best operating system EVER! I'm still waiting on single sign-on for that matter.
TrophyHusband 0 #38 January 22, 2009 i've got almost everything worked out now. now it seems that websights are stretched sideways like they are 4:3 aspect ratio stretched to fit a 16:9 screen. i'm sure its a simple setting change somewhere, i just can't find it. Normiss- I agree that if you want something to use at both home/office that you want to use the same OS across the board which is usually windows. same with gaming which is why my desktop is built for windows. I still stand by my tech quote. Im sure there are great computer techs out there....i just dont think they are working for the individual computer stores (yes i know this is a generalization but hey thats just me ) Was mostly just trying to point out that Macs have a lot more to offer these days then in the past. For system stability, windows cant match it. A lot of programs are made for both systems now...Mac can run office. Again its all personal preference. Both are good in some ways both are bad in some ways. The Altitude above you, the runway behind you, and the fuel not in the plane are totally worthless Dudeist Skydiver #

TrophyHusband 0 #42 January 22, 2009 maybe you can answer this. my audio and video aren't working (no drivers). when i try to load the drivers from the disk, they won't load because "one or more of the files is missing or corrupted". when i let it scan for drivers, it can't find drivers. i've re-installed windows a couple of times before, and i don't remember it being this much of a pain in the ass.
