warpedskydiver 0 #1 January 15, 2009 My nephew has received a XBox for Christmas and wants to do online gaming. He has had no luck with getting it online. I went over and reviewed all the Wifi variables on the router, even strated over from scratch and still no luck. I tried to just use a Cat-5 to connect it, still no joy. I even went so far as to reduce it to WEP, no joy. Please advise, I already used the port forwarding (forget which ports this minute) but still no luck. My laptop will connect to the Router, I can see the SSID easily. Anyone has some good info on this?

millertime24 8 #3 January 15, 2009 I think it has something to do with connection speed. My uncle tried hooking his up at my dads house but it wasnt fast enough. What type/speed modem are you running?Muff #5048
Tokter 0 #4 January 15, 2009 Not sure what all you have tried yet. All I had to do was: - Plug in the wireless module on the back of the xbox - Go to System settings / Network Connection - Pick my wireless network, enter password. - Entered a fixed IP so I can do the port forwarding on the router - Done. There is an option in the XBOX System settings to test the xbox live connection. That should tell you where in the chain (xbox>router>live server>account) the problem is. Try that and see what error message you get.
theonlyski 8 #5 January 15, 2009 try to eliminate the router as being the stopping point... if you have a modem that is connected to the router via cat-5, remove it from the router, plug it in to the xbox (assuming that you have cable, dsl is sometimes a bitch to setup like this) if it logs in, then you know you need to work on the router, if it doesnt, you have eliminated the router as being the current problem. i always recommend troubleshooting with wires and not wireless... just another link in the chain that you can remove to get to the source easier FWIW when I connected my xbox to my linksys router, it pulled the ip address, and worked immediatly."I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message

skymama 37 #7 January 15, 2009 Thanks for posting that phone number. Currently, I have a really long cord going down a flight of stairs, through my kitchen and into the office to the router every time my son wants to play Xbox because we can't get the connection to work. He's going to call today, dagnamit! She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
