I almost always say, "Thank you" in return. If I know it's another vet from a previous generation, I thank them again, reason being, it's because of them that we get treated so well.
As for actual gifts, again, it's thank you. However, if you're truly uncomfortable receiving it, accept it anyway and then pass it on to someone else (like at the Fisher House).
Either way, it doesn't make it any more "routine"...and that I hope is a sign of humility on my part...

I wish the UK was the same> I was in the US last year and will be again in March for 4 months. I did notice a big difference over there with the attitude towards the armed forces.

I can't really say why i was there but it was with my submarine. We was at Kings Bay naval submarine base and thats where i will be again in March.

ive been to a fair amount of countries... but i cant see any of the commanders letting me go skydiving in them, but, once i get my rig, ill bring it everywhere just incase
