LisaH 0 #2 December 31, 2008 I think what they are doing sucks!! We are going to lose those channels and still pay the same monthly charges. Last month I noticed 2 channels disappeared without notice and when I called, they told me it would cost $5.00/month more to put them back. There are a few channels scrolling an 800 number to call to fight this. I did. Stoopid Time Warner. Be yourself! MooOOooOoo

If the split in viewing time and fee really is as it is in the article, then let them pursue higher fees. /doesn't have time warner
normiss 851 #6 December 31, 2008 but their numbers are down...if they aren't getting the audience, how do you justify the increase? jtnesbitt 0 #8 December 31, 2008 They could be doing it in anticipation of higher ratings and more viewers in the next few months. Historically ratings and the number of viewers/listeners increase during times of economic slowdown. livendive 8 #9 December 31, 2008 The only channels I would miss would be Comedy Central (routinely) and Spike (occasionally). I haven't a clue when the last time was I even flipped through one of the other channels, and my cable bill is high enough already ($130/month including internet). masterrig 1 #12 December 31, 2008 What I really don't understand is, we pay a 'fee' each month for (in my case) satellite t.v. Yet, we are inundated with commercials. Cable and satellite companies want to cut the number of channels but don't reduce their rates to the customer. To me, it's nothing more than greed. Now, as of February, 2009, people are having 'H.D.' t.v shoved down their throats. What about those folks who can only afford 'rabbit ears'. I think, 2009 will be the year I start driving my congerssman and senator with an over-abundance of letters and e-mails!Chuck

This has nothing to do with HD TV. True, HD signals are in digital format, but not all digital signals are HD. All that is needed for those few who still use OTA (and the numbers are truly statistically small) all that is needed is the converter box you can get for $10 with the govt. coupon. Sorry for the hijack, digital/analog/HD has nothing to do with the VIACOM/TW fight, but it is a sore point with me. Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?

Along our Southwest border, there are a lot of folks who only have outside or 'rabbit ears' antennas and they can't afford the change-over. What I was getting at was all the little ways, the cable/satellite companies are getting to customers. I put them in the same category as gasoline producers. They know we 'want' it so, they are going to make us pay for it. Chuck
normiss 851 #16 January 1, 2009 They can afford the change. The government coupon is for $40, I saw hd tuners at Sears for $40. So I got mine for free. Works perfectly fine with rabbit ears. What's the cost?
