quade 4 #26 December 20, 2008 I will never cease to be amazed at the capacity of some people to bitch in the face of fortune. There have been times in my life when I've been paid extremely well for doing practically nothing. I'm going through a period right now when I'm freelancing, which means I still get paid extremely well for doing practically nothing, but it's not steady work. My main client essentially shut down the freelance work at the beginning of December because it's a slow time for them. None of the regular employees do anything but sit around during the holidays anyway and bitch about how low their bonuses are going to be. Meanwhile, the only thing that gets me through periods like these is having the sense to have banked a chunk of cash. There is a huge segment of the population that is out of regular work right now. People bitching about low bonuses is . . . tacky.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
BIGUN 1,323 #27 December 20, 2008 Quote What I discovered was the more I did for them and the more I gave the more they expected. I'm sure though that somehow I was the asshole. Well, on the flip side, I can't say that I haven't experienced that segment of employees also. You are an asshole. But, you're our asshole and they can't talk about you like that. Point'em out!! Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
ltdiver 3 #28 December 20, 2008 Being in the health care industry, in a rather poor part of the county, our bonus this year was a $20 Target gift card. We had to contribute cash into the Christmas Party fund if we wanted to attend, though. In the 18+ years I've been a therapist I've only worked one place that gave a bonus. It was a private clinic that actually (I discovered in the few months I worked there) committed fraud with their billing practices. Once this became apparent I gave my resignation and got the heck outta there. I'd rather have a clear conscience than rake in a bonus if that's what it takes... ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
BikerBabe 0 #29 December 20, 2008 Me? no bonus because i have no job. My husband actually got about double from what he got last year, and it is somewhat substantial. Helps to work at a defense company when there's a "war" going on. Their profits and business are actually up from last year. His bonus is based on merit as well as how profitable the business is. We didn't expect anything, and never do, and to get this was actually a nice surprise.Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
