Thanatos340 1 #1 December 17, 2008 Just curious how wide spread the "I change a Tire" problem is. (Anyone (Male or Female) that cant change a Tire and wants to learn, If you see me at a DZ let me know and we will go out in the parking lot and change a tire. It takes about 10 Minutes and knowing how could really save your ass someday. I also firmly believe that you only learn by Doing, So lets go play pit crew.) tmaricle55 0 #2 December 17, 2008 Yes, I can but I also have AAA! Who wants to change a tire when it's wet! Muff Brother # 3883, SCR # 14796 ICD # 1 - Pres. Yeah, I noticed and I think it's funny!
Jewels 0 #3 December 17, 2008 LOL! I was going to say that my form of changing a tire is to call AAA, but I wouldn't mind learning. I was shown how to do it once, long ago, but never having had to ACTUALLY change a tire means that I wouldn't feel confident that I had done it correctly.TPM Sister #
skymama 37 #4 December 17, 2008 I have AAA, but I've never had to call them to change a tire. Anytime I've had a flat, a guy has come along and offered to help. My mama didn't raise no fools, I let them change it! I was sincerely appreciative though. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
LisaH 0 #5 December 17, 2008 Yes. I can also change the oil, set the timing, gap spark plugs, etc. Who needs a smelly boy to do it. Be yourself! MooOOooOoo
kingbunky 3 #6 December 17, 2008 i can, but now i don't have to. i bought my very first new car a couple years ago and it came with run-flat tires. no spare, no jack, no wheel wrench, nothing. if i have a complete blow-out, i have to call the dealer for road-side asisstance. that came free for the first 4 years, so far i haven't had to use it."Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." I can change them with one hand and I do it on the 767 / 777 at work too in fact it's easier to change aircraft tire than car tire...the jack that comes with the car is POS! gonzalesna 0 #14 December 17, 2008 i never took the time to weigh one, but I cheat and use my legs to help support it if I need to. I've driven a truck for 90% of the time I've owned a vehicle, and I've never had any problems lifting a tire high enough to put it back on just rest the tire on your legs Some people refrain from beating a dead horse. Thanatos340 1 #15 December 17, 2008 QuoteThe one time I had help changing a tire (someone "helped me put the wheel back on") the wheel proceeded to fall off within about a mile. Too loose. A great reason to do it yourself instead of trusting other to do it for you. Important things: Chock the wheels so that car cannot roll once you jack it up. Break the lug nuts loose before you jack up the car. Make sure the jack is under the frame. Never let any part of you get under the car or Tire you are changing. (Do not ever trust ANY Jack, Treat it as if it could fail at any time) Once you put the new tire on, Snug up the lug nuts but wait till you let the car down to really Tighten them up. micduran 0 #16 December 17, 2008 I have changed a tire and I have changed the oil in my car. Do I like doing those things - no. Would I like AAA or a guy to do it for me, hell yes. It is a good feeling to know that I can do it, though.Be patient with the faults of others; they have to be patient with yours.
NWFlyer 2 #17 December 17, 2008 My dad showed me how to when I got my license and I promptly forgot - I should probably re-learn, but I have AAA! I have only had two flat tires in my life - in both cases I called AAA. First one was in LA on a city street (though I was able to pull over into a parking spot). I probably *could * have dealt with that one on my own, but didn't - was in work clothes and yada yada yada. The second one was on the left side of Interstate 5 in Oregon - complete blowout of my right rear tire. I pulled onto the shoulder safely, but wasn't about to do that one myself with the tire that needed changing right out next to freeway traffic - felt much safer having the AAA guy come out and put his big-ass wrecker between the car and the highway to offer some protection."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
wmw999 2,460 #18 December 17, 2008 Yeah, that's what I got for trusting that he did it right . Lucky for me the wheel went to the outside shoulder, so I pulled off, retrieved it, and put all 4 wheels on with 3 lug nuts each for the drive to the dealer. Wendy W.
