Ran into another "skydiver" yesterday...

This thread is a perfect example of what's wrong with dropzone.com. No, I'm not talking about the original post, I'm talking about the responses from people that don't understand the concept of a quality troll. We need this sort of thing every once in a while to keep people on their toes a bit... Ya know, a little understanding of what a troll is and how to react appropriately.

I believe that's the point of a troll. And he's doing it well again.:D

Yeah and they probably learned a lesson thanks to this thread.

All the moderation on here has left us so vulnerable to trolls... we just aren't ready for it! Come on people, get prepared for when this happens! This was just a drill of the emergency troll system. In the event of an actual troll, don't feed him!

I sure hope you're back. Skydiving hasn't been the same without you :P

I concur. Nippleboy was a riot.

We both go way back to the days of rec.skydiving, and I sure enjoyed his raucous and ridiculous posts. He could make a book out of them, like "Bedtime Stories for Skydivers"... :D:D:D

Not sure if you're a troll or just an old-time skydiver, but the terms you used (spock, daffies, etc) ARE terms used in today's skydiving world. Check out the world of modern freeflying and you'll understand.

btw, why would -anyone- in their right mind get ABOVE another skydiver at a known pull (or AAD) altitude? :S

ltdiver

Thanks - it has been a while since I tried freakflying, but it appears to have progressed a lot since I last tried it. I still think they could have picked better names for the formations - not something that I expect to hear at a Star Trek convention.

I guess I'm an old-timer now, but I am still excited to share my knowledge and experience with the nwer jumpers.

What I really like is 179 jumps in 15 years with a 1.86:1 wing loading. Mad Skillz, I tell ya. :D

And does anybody have a clue what discipline "Sky Boxing" falls under ??

Please - have a little more respec for those who have been aroudn the sport for a while. Just because I havent updated my numbers (I have over 300 jumps now) doesnt make me dangerous.
I'm a conservative jumper and very safety conscience.

Almost half my jumps have been hop and packs at altitude. I am a student of canopy flight . and I have read John Leblank, Brian Burke and Brian Germane's articles and books many times. I think I have more time under canopy than some 1000-jump newbies. I'm also involved in many other extreme sports and I think a lot of th eattitude I used to get when I was more active was just jealousy. Hey - if you're not good enough to jump a Stiletto, why you stopping me?

Sky Boxing is a sport that was just taking off in th e90's. I invented it and introduced a coupel of people to it. It didn't get popular because some participants complained about not being able to pull with the gloves on.

Not to mention being an instructor with an "A" license.

He must be that dude in the Wally Gubbins videos that boxes the tandem drogue...

Don't be so quick to laugh at others mnealtx. When I started jumping you needed 100 jumps to become a JM. I was good enough to do it at 60, but I waited because I wanted to learn.
I know a lot of skydivers and I'm pretty sure all th einstructors I have met have an A license. Are you really a jumper?

LOL ... the other dude sounds more like a skydiver than you. You decided to get above her? So that you can freefall into her soon to be open canopy? LMAO ... some safety concious skydiver you are. :P

I am surprised to see so many supposedly experienced jumpers question this. My instructors taught me that it's importatn to "conserve altitude" - that is why I prefer to stay above the student. If there's a problem I can simply dive down the 20 to 30 feet or get in their burble and tackle them from above. Staying above the student also lets you keep an eye on the ground so that you check the spot and make sure the pilot didn't f*ck you over for farting in the 182.

So how often have you guys run into someone claiming to be a skydiver and then finding out their totally faking it?

just one question, when you get above your student to observe their pull, how many beer should you have in your reserve comtainer?

NEVER PUT BEER IN YOUR RESERVE CONTAINER. When you crack a beer open under canopy it will splash back on you and stink up your jumpsuit and make your canopy sticky. It is also very unsafe! If you drop your beer, it could hit a jumper below you if your doing CRW. If your at the top of an 8-stack it could get ugly (this has happened before).

If you must get a buzz on while jumping, use a chest-mount triangle block, modifed to form a beer-coozy. Contact me for details on how to do this.

That is sooo rad man that you hold safety meetings at your DZ regularly. I seriously need to hit you up so I can learn how to be just in the right spot over someone when they're about to open. Priceless!!!!

Not sure what "hit you up" means but I will guess it is a complement. Don't you have safety meetings at your DZ? You should seriously organize one - talk to your DZO or S&TA.

I already made a chest strap beer coozy for late night tower climbing with a bottle coozy. I can climb my tower AND drink my beer at the same time with a well placed straw. I like your thinking, although i do take it out when i jump as i dont want it smashing my teeth out my skull.

also never heard of a 10 second delay from 6 grand... hell we used to do 4way for 30 seconds,,,,, from 6 grand!!!:|:D:SB|;)

You are a danger to yourself and jumpers around you doing 4way for 30 seconds from 6k. If you are going to pull high, make sure the group behind you knows.

I am sorry so many of you think I am a troll. If you have some serious disagreements about what I posted why not post why you think so. Just because it sounds difficult to believe doesn't mean it didnt happen. If you go to the Crystal bar in Zhills and look for Mary-Beth shes a busty gal in her 40s (tho she says she's 34)a regular there on Thursdays she will verify my story. Tell her I'm still looking to go bowling with her. Oh yeah - she thinks my name is Hank and she thinks I am a pilot for USAir. Be cool.
