gonzalesna 0 #1 December 5, 2008 Had an inspection at work and flat out, we failed miserably. The inspection was in regards to paperwork involving qualifications to do our job. The guy I'm replacing didn't do a damn thing since he took control of ensuring these qualifications were met over 6 months ago. He's been chewed out on multiple occasions by a Captain, including about a 45 minute ass reaming during his last visit 2-3 weeks ago. Since then, he's still done nothing. I've received no instruction from the guy, despite repeated attempts to sit down with him. He, of course, has only one focus: to check out of this duty station and get to his next command. This is one of the kinds of people in this job field I can't stand. He's here because it basically sounds cool to be an EOD tech. He, like everyone else, likes shit that blows up but doesn't want to do any of the crappy work that goes along with the job. Now, all his failures fall upon my shoulders to un-fuck. I still have very little knowledge on what I need to do, however, I got a chance to talk to the inspector and at least clear a few things up. Seeing as the inspector talks to the Captain that chewed him out a few weeks ago, I wouldn't be surprised if he tried to throw the failure on me to keep his ass out of hot water for his last week here. Right now I'd like nothing more than to see him removed from the MOS. (Military Occupational Specialty; a.k.a. job.)Some people refrain from beating a dead horse. Personally, I find a myriad of entertainment value when beating it until it becomes a horse-smoothie.
JohnRich 4 #2 December 5, 2008 First of all, CYA - cover your ass. Don't let him blame you for his failures. Meanwhile, continue stepping up to the plate to do the job correctly. Talk to those inspectors and find out what they want. Then do it yourself. That'll not only ensure that they don't come down hard on you for the blame, but will also position you to be assigned to do the primary role with a promotion, once he departs. The current situation may stink, but it's also an opportunity for you take over and really shine. Work politics suck, but it's almost always there, and you gotta deal with it. LOSTandCRAZY 0 #5 December 5, 2008 If you're Army, I can't tell you what to do. Navy or Marines? Easy, run the chit. All the way UP the chain of command, listing all of the complaints, and get some other people in the chain to sign off, as well. Document it all. You know the drill, shit rolls downhill, my friend."Get these balls!"

Manuals are your friend. Last time I checked, the Corps even had one on how to wipe your ass. Dig em out and start reading. Just curious, was this an IG inspection or an audit team within MOS? For some MOS's, if you fail later - Staff and up are replaced by new leadership.
gonzalesna 0 #10 December 5, 2008 it's within the mos if i remember correctly. this inspection was run by a civillian that used to do my job many years ago. And the beauty of military (most of the time) - they can't blame things like this on the juniors (because it is reflection of their blah blah blah... you know, the cool-aid they serve in boot) Rank-permitting, pull a "PFC-don't-know". But if not - sorry dude, you are in for some long hours and working weekends. Just the way system works.
