Finally understand why i don't like The Eagles

Recommended Posts

They might not be my favorite group, but I still like them. If they didn't care about the music, they would not practice and rehearse as much as they do. They are actually very disciplined musicians; they put on a tight show which is why they can still tour and charge a small fortune for tickets. Their harmonies are amazing for a group of "old guys". I don't think its fair to say they don't care about the music.

Rock stars making money- what a concept!

Well, OK, I like Hotel California, even if they ripped off Jethro Tull to make the song. The rest of the Eagles pretty much sounds like country music, though. Blech.

What he said. I've always figured that the reason I don't like The Eagles or CCR is because they sound(ed) way too much like country.

One of the criticisms raised in the T.V program that jjiimmyyt watched,m was that The Eagles are in fact TOO Tight... There's no spontaneity in their stage show and the music sounds like it does on the records....

I also aim this same 'problem' at Eric Johnson ... his stage show is so over produced.

But I lover both sets of music.

Being an American, I know what you mean.

Actually, I do love John Cleese in Fawlty Towers. And Ab Fab.

John Cleese wasn't in Ad fab:P

See, you're doing it again.

Maybe I just type in shorthand too much, although rarely have I been accused of undue brevity. Anyhow, I simply meant that I also like the program Ab Fab.

Well, I think "too tight" and "not in it for the music" contradict each other. I'm all for spontaneity but I respect a group that sounds as good live as they do in the studio- they are few and far between IMO.

That's an interesting observation... But I don't want to go to a concert and have the same musical experience that I can get from the 'record'. I guess that it's a personal choice.

I agree with that. Why shell out over $100.00 for a ticket when you can have the same experience listening to a $10.00 cd? I just disagree with the "in it for the money" characterization for the OP. There are too many performers out there that suck live, either because they just aren't that good to begin with or because they don't give a crap. Those are the ones who are "in it for the money"!

BTW- I heard the Beatles weren't very good live at all- partly because they didn't have to be. No one could hear them over all the screaming girls!

Thanks - I don't support the "In it for the money" motivation per se. either (any more than most people are in the jobs to get paid).

I think that I read once that the Beetles were pissed off about all the screening, because they couldn't hear their monitors and the audience couldn't hear their music....... not quite so pissed off about getting laid so often though:)
