Big Day in college football today

Recommended Posts

Yeah, I couldn't believe it was that bad. 6 of our TDs were 25 yards or more, including two long interception returns. 3 of our RBs averaged at least 8 yards per rush, with our top RB getting 162 yards, including a 87 yard scamper up the middle for a TD. Our passing sucked, but against Arkansas, that's okay. It won't be okay against Georgia, I can tell you that much. Final score, 49 - 14. Damn...

Florida Gators up 20 - 0 at Tennessee at half time. The Vols blew two chances to score inside the 5 yard line. Fumbled it away the first time and then with time running down on the 2nd quarter, threw a 4th down interception, after they had 1st and goal! You're not gonna win doing that. :S

Sorry, but Tennessee just doesn't look very good. They lost in OT at UCLA, and then UCLA gets blasted the next week at BYU 59-0. They have a new offensive coordinator and new QB starter, so it's a transitional time for the Vols. Same thing for Arkansas. New coaching staff and they lost McFadden and Jones to the NFL from last year's team.

The real season, at least for Bama, starts next week at Georgia. I hope The Dawgs win at Arizona State tonight. Should be a great game next Saturday!

Tonight, LSU is at Auburn, and that one is always a slobberknocker. Anybody wanna guess the outcome? I won't say who wins or loses, but I will guess that neither team will score more than one TD each. It's going to be fun to watch! Good old fashioned smash mouth defense on display! :)

I mostly watched LSU and Auburn, flipping to UGA and ASU during breaks, but Georgia seemed to have the game well in hand and won 27 - 10.

LSU and Auburn... whew... typical see saw battle. Wow... LSU comes from behind to win with a TD pass with just over a minute left, then Auburn tries to come back down. Don't know where they ended up at but on 4th and 25 they threw a 20 yard pass completion that ended up 3 yards short of a first down with 13 or so seconds left. Game over. LSU wins 26-21.

Now there are 4 unbeaten teams left in the SEC - Alabama, LSU in the west, and Georgia and Florida in the east. Wait a minute... Kentucky and Vanderbilt are also unbeaten? What a shocker! I don't know if Kentucky played today but Vanderbilt won at Ole Miss.

Georgia had several moments of slobknobbery, sending ASU halfway down the field on penalties alone, but they played pretty well overall. Greene was on fire! Think they'll be passing to him a lot more often.

Moreno looks to be working on his audition film for the Heisman.

I look forward to next week!

What a great place this DZ.com.

I learned something new today.

"slobberknocker" and "slobberknockery"

The English language is soooooooo cool.

A damn sight cooler than the version across the pond too. :P

I'm looking forward to this Saturday's game between Alabama and Georgia too. I hope it's a barn-burner. ESPN Game Day will be there as well. Georgia's ranked #3 and Alabama's up to #8. Another big weekend for SEC games, as #4 LSU plays at #5 Florida and Tennessee travels to Auburn.

My gut feeling on Bama-UGA: UGA is better personnel-wise. What Alabama is going to have to do to win: force turnovers and make the dawgs pay for them, as they did to Arkansas. Run up a 2 or 3 TD lead and hang on. Control the game with a successful running game. That's mainly because Alabama's problem is, they still lack depth at certain positions. Georgia is loaded 2 and 3 deep most everywhere. If it's a close game going into the 4th quarter, Georgia is going to benefit because our starters will tire out.

Last year's game, although Bama forced OT and still lost, they caught Georgia at a time when the dawgs were still working out the kinks in their game. Had we played UGA in November, we'd have lost by 3 touchdowns.

Here's hoping Alabama shows up ready to play! :)

Hey Billy-Ask Hushpuppy what a BLACKOUT is?:D:D

Yeah, I'm sure he knows. Georgia beat the holy fuck out of Auburn last year didn't they? :D

They would have beat Alabama about as bad at that time of the season too since the dawgs needed a little over a month to get their kinks worked out and then they were unstoppable.

Bama QB Wilson mentioned he didn't care what color the dawgs and their fans wore, they were still going to have to play the game. Boy I hope he's ready to play! :D

Holy Shit! Did anybody see the Southern Cal - Oregon State game last night? I didn't even realize it was on until it was halftime and the score was 21 - 0 for Oregon State. I did a double take, and muttered "what the fuck?" a 1 - 2 Oregon State team who got battered by Penn State and if I'm not mistaken, is currently playing their #3 QB, leading the nation's #1 team by 3 TDs at halftime??? So I settled in to watch the 2nd half. USC did make a run late to cut the lead down to 21-14, then OSU intercepted a pass and ran it back to the 2 yard line, and on the next play ran it in for the game clinching TD with 3 minutes left. USC made quick work on their next drive getting a TD to cut it to 27-21 and we all knew an onside kick was coming. That failed and the Beavers ran the clock out.

Now the BCS national championship is wide open. Need somebody to knock off #2 Oklahoma and their 50 point per game offense, and the SEC teams ranked #3, #4, #5 and #8 can take turns beating the shit out of each other. It's gonna be a fun season to watch! :D

Don't count out Auburn! :)
USC just got bitch slapped by a "mediocre" team. That tells you a lot about "the best team in the nation" and how people percieve teams in college football. There's an insane difference in the talent levels in different conferences. And you REALLY can't base a team's season on past performance. College football is way too unpredictable.

Once the SEC is done beating the crap out of one another, we'll see who rises to the surface and dominates whatver team they face in the championship game. I just hope it isn't Alabama, because they suck ;)

I will be kissing hands and shaking babies all afternoon. Thanks for all your support! *bows*

Oh... an Auburn fan, eh? :D Really, I didn't expect Alabama to contend for anything before the season started, as we're still thin depth-wise in some positions, and we have a ridiculously rough road schedule (Arkansas yea right, Georgia, Tennessee and LSU) but I do believe our starting 22 can match up with anybody. I have yet to see how Alabama does when the game is on the line late in the 4th quarter this fall, but so far our offense and defense are finally getting it done in the red zone for the most part. The real season starts tomorrow, at #3 Georgia. The onus is on Georgia to deliver. Rumors are circulating that they're calling for a "black" out. Breaking out the black jerseys and getting their fans to wear black. Does anyone remember the UGA - Auburn score from last year? :P I think Alabama has gotten into the dawgs heads now that they have to resort to mind games. Anything for an edge, huh?

No I'm not predicting an Alabama victory. I'm just hoping they are ready to play to win. I'll wait until after the game to decide if we suck. :P

Oh so sorry your team got bitchslapped by LSU. ;) Truth is, we probably will too. :S We'll see....

Holy Shit!! Did anybody see the Ole Miss - Florida game?!? Tied 24-24 with less than 6 minutes to play. Ole Miss throws a 85 yard TD pass to go up 31-24. Florida moves down the field, scores a TD, but the PAT gets blocked! 31-30! After Ole Miss played scared on offense and punted back after 3 plays, Florida tried to move down again with 2 minutes left. Got to 4th and 1 to go on the 32 yard line and Tebow gets stopped cold. Wow... Who would have thought it? Ole fucking Miss????

So... #1 Southern Cal and #4 Florida have lost. Could #3 Georgia be next tonight? :)

Hey Dawgs! Hey Dawgs! We just beat the HELL out of YOU!!!! B|B|B|B|B|

You know what gave me a good vibe before the game started? ESPN playing AC/DC's Thunderstruck as the opening music. My favorite song all-time. B|

Black out? What Black out? Give me a break! Sure, it worked against Auburn last year, but this is this year, and Alabama knew ahead of time the Dawgs were going to do it, and threw it right back in their faces.

I mean, come on.... Alabama led 31-0 at halftime? AT GEORGIA???? Pinch me, I must have been dreaming!

But.... damn, they started coming back, as I knew they would. These Dawgs can score points in a hurry. If it had been a close game and they had not committed so many stupid penalties, they would have beat Alabama. We would have still led at halftime, but not by as much, and Georgia would have come from behind in the 4th quarter to win. They just shot themselves in the foot time and time again in the first half. Two big penalties on each of Alabama's first two drives, and then the receiver coughing up the ball on a pass and Alabama's true freshman Hightower scooping it up mid air, and later led to a Bama score, and the rout was on. Bama never punted in the first half. They scored on every possession.

However, the third quarter was a complete disaster for Alabama. We would have gained zero yards if not for Wilson's scramble on the final play of the quarter. I'm just glad we found our offense again in the 4th quarter to put up those 10 points and keep Georgia at a safe distance. UGA put up 20 points in the 4th quarter. We can't let that happen in a close game or we are going to lose.

I'll say this, what did Georgia in, was not being able to rush against Alabama's vaunted rushing defense. Moreno only got what, 34 yards? Wow... And Alabama's defensive backs made a lot of good plays on Georgia's long bomb attempts.

Bottom line is, we've shocked a lot of people across the nation, piling up 34 on Clemson, 49 on Arkansas and 41 on Georgia, all away from home, but until I see Alabama prove their mettle in the 4th quarter of a close game, we haven't done anything yet. There's still 7 games to play and next week is unbeaten Kentucky at home, and road games at Tennessee and LSU later on, as well as home games vs Miss State, Ole Miss (who shocked Florida on the road today) and Auburn.

I'll be the most shocked SOB if Alabama finds a way to win them all. It just ain't gonna happen as long as Alabama plays that soft in the 2nd half.

But hell, I already like how things are going. And did you see that TD pass to true freshman phenom Julio Jones in the corner of the end zone??? What a beauty! Makes up for last year's OT loss right there! B|B|B|
