IM TOLD THEYR SIMILAR EXCEPT THE SAPHIRE2 OPENS SOFTER WHICH SUITS ME COZ MY BACK IS NASTY- I CANT AFFORD HARD OPENINGS. this will be my firt canopy. opinions please
 darkwing 5 #2 November 15, 2005 You need to do more research. I assume it is possible to demo canopies in the UK, so you should. Another canopy in the same class as the two you mention is the Pilot, by Aerodyne. The best scenario is for you to jump all three of them and then make your decision. Discuss which size to try with your DZ authorities. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
 dragon2 2 #3 November 15, 2005 They will fly a bit different, you may like one better than the other, but if I were you I'd go for either a pilot or safire 1/2. I've seen a few sabre2's that have unpredictable (or even predictable ) hard and/or off heading openings. The safire2 I'm jumping now has rediculously slow openings, ditto for the safire1 I have 80 jumps on, and the pilot I jumped a few times opened nice and slow. Any canopy CAN open hard but I'd put my faith in these rather than in a sabre2. ciel bleu, Saskia
 jas8472 0 #4 November 15, 2005 buy a pilot. (almost 1000ft openings on both). I find the the safire2 is less 'searchy' on opening, but I've never had problems with my sabre2 either...so far Both canopies flare and land nicely (although require different 'styles' of flare), but I prefer the flare characteristics of the sabre2 more. Unfortunately I've never had a chance to jump a Pilot but I've also heard good reports about it so best not disregard that option As people have already said - if you can, demo the canopies and then you can choose the one you like
 GQ_jumper 4 #8 November 15, 2005 Not to hijack this thread, but has anyone flew a Fusion from Percision Aerodynamics??
