mamajumps 0 #1 October 24, 2008 My mom is thinking about getting my kids ages 10, 8 & 6 a wii for Christmas. I am wondering how durable it is. My kids are not hellions, but they are kids. If she got it, I would keep it in my room so that I could keep a close eye on the use of the unit. (we don't have a tv in the family room, because that is where we do family time, games and such). Do any of you have it that have kids? I know I would also like to have one, but if it is as fragile as the PS2, I am having 2nd thoughts... thanks! The actual unit sits on top of the TV and the controllers are remote. As long as they do wear the wrist straps properly so not to actually throw them at the TV it should be ok. But keep in mind the space needed to play, enough room for 2 people to stand and swing arms and stuff with out hitting something or someone. Oh and make sure they get the second controller and a pair of nuchucks, it only comes with one controller. She is not a "Dumb Blonde" - She is a "Light-Haired Detour Off The Information Superhighway." eeneR TF#72, FB#4130, Incauto
 simplyputsi 0 #3 October 24, 2008 Yeah, what eener said, but I'll add that if they break it they break it. Lesson learned, expensive fun things can break and they don't get replaced.Skymama's #2 stalker -
 downwardspiral 0 #4 October 24, 2008 The PS2 and Wii are no more fragile then your run of the mill dvd player. Wii's are reliable unlike the Xbox360 if that's your concern.www.FourWheelerHB.com
 mamajumps 0 #5 October 24, 2008 I think the PS2 I had was a lemon. My boys were gone all summer and when they came home to use it, it only made a loud noise and would not play. It worked fine before they left. Sony replaced it since it was still under warranty... Nary a problemn yet. Nice thing is that you never touch it except to put in and take out discs; so minimal wear and tear. What they said about lots of room. 2 kids playing tennis requires a good amount of arm-swinging space. If you get any of the racing games, try to get a couple steering wheels. They definitely improve the handling because it makes you aware of staying in the correct plane for accurate steering." . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
 PeregrineFalcon 0 #8 October 24, 2008 Ours will be a year old this Christmas too. It's good because the kids love it, yet they don't play it for HOURS. They get tired of it (sometimes literally) after a while and go do something else. Plus, Daddy has fun with Madden, Ultimate Alliance and Call of Duty. No problems with the durability. Yes, it has happened many times. Just Google. The only other things that I would recommend are a Wi-Fi connection, and some good games. It is a good console for game-type games (if you get one, you will understand). The best feature is the WiiRemote UI. The rest of the unit is not up to par with the other two major G4 units. I like mine, and just played 3 hours of Tiger Woods 09 and MarioKart. - DavidSCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)
 Join the conversation You can post now and register later.
