Wii owners...

Recommended Posts

My mom is thinking about getting my kids ages 10, 8 & 6 a wii for Christmas. I am wondering how durable it is. My kids are not hellions, but they are kids. If she got it, I would keep it in my room so that I could keep a close eye on the use of the unit. (we don't have a tv in the family room, because that is where we do family time, games and such).

Do any of you have it that have kids? I know I would also like to have one, but if it is as fragile as the PS2, I am having 2nd thoughts... thanks!:)

You need to have room to play wii, it is not a sit on your but kind of game. The actual unit sits on top of the TV and the controllers are remote. As long as they do wear the wrist straps properly so not to actually throw them at the TV it should be ok. But keep in mind the space needed to play, enough room for 2 people to stand and swing arms and stuff with out hitting something or someone.

Oh and make sure they get the second controller and a pair of nuchucks, it only comes with one controller.

The one good thing is there no cords attached from the unit to the controller for them to trip on and have the whole think crash to the floor (that’s how my boy killed off one game cube) I bought my kids one for Christmas so I can’t say personally how it holds up but a friend of mine said they have had no problems other then the usual of watching that the kids don’t leave the disks around for them to get scratched
SO this one time at band camp.....

Ours will be a year old this Christmas. Nary a problemn yet. Nice thing is that you never touch it except to put in and take out discs; so minimal wear and tear.

What they said about lots of room. 2 kids playing tennis requires a good amount of arm-swinging space.

If you get any of the racing games, try to get a couple steering wheels. They definitely improve the handling because it makes you aware of staying in the correct plane for accurate steering.

If you have a big TV (LCD/Plasma/Unobtanium) screen, you may want to look into getting some sort of plexi-shield put on it to keep it from being destroyed when the WiiRemote comes out of the hand of the kid who didn't want to use the wrist-strap. Yes, it has happened many times. Just Google.

The only other things that I would recommend are a Wi-Fi connection, and some good games. It is a good console for game-type games (if you get one, you will understand). The best feature is the WiiRemote UI. The rest of the unit is not up to par with the other two major G4 units.

I like mine, and just played 3 hours of Tiger Woods 09 and MarioKart.
