bigbearfng 18 #1 November 29, 2005 I've tried searching here, but didn't find any comments on long term durability of jav's leather look materials or the houndstooth combos. Anyone had one for a few thousand jumps yet? Problems with it? Or any comments about it looks cheesy? Thanks for any help!
HydroGuy 0 #2 November 29, 2005 They have the leather look on a demo rig at Perris. It has held up reasonably well, but looks like crap IMHO.Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
mark 107 #3 November 29, 2005 If by "leather look" you mean that stuff left over from the basketball factory, it looks okay on some parts of the rig, not so good on others. It doesn't stretch or move like para-pack or cordura, so it's harder to make basketball-stuff reserve side flaps look good, and anywhere else the two fabrics join you're likely to get puckering. It's also thicker than the usual fabric, so the tuck tabs don't work as well. Houndstooth holds up okay, but please don't use it on the reserve pilot chute hat -- it's a real pain trying to get the pilot chute collapsed so the pattern aligns with the pattern elsewhere on the rig. It looks like a cheap, grey basketball with a stunning resemblance to a skydiving rig. That's not to say that there aren't people out there who will absolutely love it... it's just not for me. It seems to pick up dirt in the space between the little "nubs" fairly easily [in a place like Perris], detracting from a potentially promising design.I really don't know what I'm talking about. Mozencrath 0 #5 November 29, 2005 My DZ did a group buy on them a few years ago when the Ody came out, and they all look brand new even with tons of jumps. I've packed them and they are a little stiff. I personally think they look pretty cool, but they are way too stiff IMO...
