LuckyMcSwervy 0 #3 September 30, 2008 Thanks! I think I'm going to the Ave Maria gift shop at lunch time to buy a plastic rosary to hang outside and also a small Virgin Mary statue to put on my window sill - she should be facing the outside - (both are for good weather, if you're into that kinda thing... - Don't want to get booted to SC for religion! And I don't have to fly to my DZ. It's only 22.2 miles from my driveway to their parking lot. Don't be a hater 'cause I live close!! Always be kinder than you feel. You'll be back soon, right? But wait, you don't breathe in freefall, right? Seriously, I had my turbinates trimmed down during my last sinus surgery a few years ago and it HURTS to breathe in the freezing air in the winter. How many left? Well, ummmm, as of this minute it looks like 19. OUCH!!! And there will be no drinking between now and then, so no Skyvan puking (by me anyway) until I'm finished - and I don't want to ruin your carpet laying! I've become immensely focused! poe62 0 #14 September 30, 2008 Just make sure your hands stay warm, and the rest of you will be fine. Freefall isn't the problem, it's the awesome cold hand pain under canopy. ...of course, I jump in Texas, so umm...maybe I'll just shuddup. ~Nikki http://www.facebook.com/poe62 Irgity Dirgity

I was one of 7 Kansas jumpers that hit Dallas last Jan 29th and it was 18deg on the ground at 8am. Of course we were the only ones there and got used like a WDI on that 1st run. Nobody landed on but we had the bunkroom, aircraft, and hangar to ourselves all weekend. Hearing "awesome cold hand pain under canopy" made me go to Dick's today on my lunch hour and I bought Under Armour Cold Gear Armourstretch Gloves. buff 0 #21 October 2, 2008 Gettin you're Dick's on at lunch huh! I'm all about the quickie when necessary. So more cold weather tips from the pro's: Don't put on your gloves until just before exit. You don't want any moisture build up in those puppies. If you have the thin one's and are still cold because they ain't blocking all the wind, wear a pair of latex exam gloves under them. You should still be able to feel your handles. The latex will block that wind. If jumping multiple loads, keep the gloves about normal body temp. Don't heat them up so your hand sweats in them or you will get cold under canopy. IOW, don't set them in front of the 1500deg propane heater in the hanger between loads. Try to stand up landings in the snow, especially if you do nude snow jumps. It ain't the time to buttslide in a downwinder. Stand outside on really really cold days and listen to your friends in freefall as they burn down in the dense air and then run back into the warm hanger and smile. They will do the same when it's your turn. We get a ton of fun jumps at our DZ over the winter b/c there ain't very many tandems. It's like night jumping with no moon. You just have to plan the dive and adjust as you go until you are comfortable. It's called the Hillbilly Hop N Pop dude. If you're gonna be stupid, you better be tough. That's fucked up.
