somethingbitme 0 #1 December 5, 2005 Hi all.Is there someone out there who can give me some feedback on how someone can rip me off when I am selling gear to them? I read the list of scams on dz.com and I am talking to someone online who sounds exactly/ almost word for word/ like some of these scams. What I am wondering is: what happens? Do these people just never send the cashier's check or is it a bogus check or what? Thanks
gemini 0 #2 December 5, 2005 Usually bogus checks, money order and bank drafts that will not clear for several weeks. By then you have shipped the goods and can't get them back when your bank reverses your deposit. Blue skies, Jim

Thanks The biggest clue is that they seem uninterested in the condition of the stuff they're trying to buy, and they're english is almost always poor, to the point of being almost unreadable sometimes. What I don't understand is why they keep coming here, it seems like they'd give up on this site after a while.

True, but I haven't heard of anybody falling victim to them on here. What's disturbing me lately is the number of selling scams going on. I reported about 10 2 days ago and another 6 or 7 today where the scammer had copied ads from Square1's website and put them in the classifieds. They're still not too smart though. The dead giveaway that it's a scammer is the fact that it's listed in the UK, but the price is listed in US dollars.

somethingbitme 0 #8 December 5, 2005 I got a strange vibe when I asked the guy "What country are you from?" and he replied..."I am from UK." Things that make you go 'Hmmmmmm...'!!
FreeflyGoat 0 #9 December 6, 2005 I personally know of 1 person falling for it. They tried to get me, I even strung them along to the point where they sent me 3 bogus $1000 money orders. They complained once about me not sending them the "refund" when I promptly told them I reported them to the FBI. I never heard anything about the "$3000" they sent me after that. Funny that they wouldnt want their thousands of dollars back _________________________ goat derka jerka bukkake jihad

Funny that they wouldnt want their thousands of dollars back I had one I strung along for about six weeks before I reported his email addy to yahoo and they killed it. He was really looking forward to buying my clear 13-cell canopy. I got him to send 2 money orders to the local FBI office, and nearly got him to give me his IP address before he caught on. If they have a hotmail or yahoo account, report them, they're pretty good about killing the accounts. It's a nice set-back for the scammers.
