mattyblast 0 #1 December 12, 2005 Uh-oh! Another jumpsuit thread! Say, I've noticed from all kinds of sources (catalogs, magazines, websites, etc.) that it's only the FF suits that are offered with the real sharp designs. The RWs and student jumpsuits look boring, dorky, and pathetic. So... My question is, does anyone know of a company that sells some outrageously sharp designs which are actually available for RW/belly flying? For what it's worth, I'm a novice and a relatively big guy (6', 220lbs.). (I've searched all 4,526 of the other jumpsuit threads and haven't found the answer to this one, so please pardon me for subjecting all of you to another jumpsuit thread!)"DOOR!!!" kingbunky 3 #3 December 12, 2005 if you can come up with a design, i'm pretty sure you could find a manufacturer to do the sewing for ya. i saw a pic of freeflir's michigan suit with flames up the arms and legs, made a couple of calls and got an rw suit with the same pattern. it's not everyone's cup of tea, but i like it. the most important part of a suit is the fit, and it's probably also the first piece of custom gear you'll buy, so make sure you get something you can live with for awhile, they ain't cheap. also, make sure you are measured by someone experienced with jump suits!"Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." davelepka 4 #4 December 12, 2005 Just a guess, but FF suits are usually baggy fitting. and it make sit easier to get a good fit with an intricate design. RW suits are often times tighter fitting. This makes it harder to sew an intricate design into the suit. Doing an applique or stripes is also out due to A) grippers getting in the way, and B) layering the fabric will effect the flight characteristics fo the suit. At your size, your suit will be a baggy fit so you should be able to get any pattern you want, and in fact the layering of fabric will help to slow you down. Oh yeah, the price is another thing. Typically the base price on an RW suit will be higher than a FF suit due to the complexity. Add in booties and options, and suit are expensive enough, without adding extras like stripes or patterns. I've got stripes on my FF suit, and I think they cost me $50. Since I didn't have to pay for booties or grippers it kept the price down, but I could imagine an RW suit approaching $400 or $450 with options plus some graphics. Good luck with that. They'll even make jumpsuits out of hemp with tie-dye / custom colour patterns. http://gocrazyman.com/"Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
councilman24 37 #6 December 12, 2005 Of course RW suits were vertually the same as freefly suits when I started. Blouced arms and legs, no grippers or booties. I've got a FreeFlyte jumpsuit from 1982 that would work real well as a freefly suit. If I could still get into it.I'm old for my age. Now the FF have grippers and no booties, maybe we could make a furtune on our old RW suites

councilman24 37 #9 December 12, 2005 My flytesuit had almost no wing. Really is a freefly suit. My Brand X and another no name grey one are wing war suits. Not so good. Yep, these freefly suits need shoulder vents! The only ballon suit I ever docked on needed grippers. It was so hard I had to hold on to the binding tape at the cuff with two fingers!I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE

Stripes or appliques can be done on snugger fitting RW suits; I wouldn't put them on the spandex areas though (covering stretchy material with non-stretchy material just doesn't seem like a good idea to me). Grippers can be placed over stripes. Appliques and stripes can also be put on booties.

You know crazy folks over in Granbury tend to dig out the vintage gear and get goofy...especally with the jumpsuits. As for the original poster, I'm more then sure that a jumpsuit company would be more then happy to make what ever you want how you want it. It'll probably cost a "bit" more then the stock price, though.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

riggerrob 643 #17 December 13, 2005 Ouragan makes some truly flash suits for cameramen. JPF just got a custom-made Ouragan suit with Maple Leaves embroidered down one side and fleur de lys down the other side to match his shiny-new, custom-embroidered Vector 3. Ouragan even makes JPF's fifty-ish year old butt look sexy.

mattyblast 0 #20 December 13, 2005 There is, and I just got a reply from Nancy saying that they do not make RW or student jumpsuits. That's poopy. Us non-free-flyers should get to look like big shots too! Actually, there is hope. A kind person messaged me and told me that Gravitygear.com can customize any style of jumpsuit and even come up with a design for me. So if anyone else is reading this thread because they're in a similar dilemma, there's your best answer yet. The bluest of skies, folks!"DOOR!!!"
