kleggo 145 #1 December 16, 2005 Hi I'm interested in hearing from people that have direct experience with this option on their rigs. What is your opinion of it's efficacy and longevity, ( i know it's probably a bit too early to judge longevity). are you happy you bought it? Have you ever seen this product used elsewhere?. I recently saw it used as handlebar padding on a road bicycle. would you buy it again? thanks for your time kleggo
nbblood 0 #2 December 16, 2005 I've got spacer foam on my Odyssey and I think it's the best $100 I spent. It's very comfortable. I'm spoiled now, I don't think I can do without it. As far as longevity, I've got about 350 or so jumps on the rig in a year and a half or so and no signs of any wear damage. Still as good as it ever was. Blues, NathanBlues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
beowulf 1 #3 December 16, 2005 I wish they had that option when I bought my Odyssey. From what I have seen and tried on, it is very comfortable.
sundevil777 102 #4 December 16, 2005 what is the spacer?People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
RossDagley 0 #5 December 16, 2005 Can they not retrofit it? My rigs due to go back to Aerodyne this winter, and rumour has it its now available as an option on their rigs, so I'll be asking for it (I'm having harness work anyway).
mjosparky 4 #6 December 16, 2005 Quotewhat is the spacer? I think they are talking about this stuff. Sparky viscoelastic flexible polyurethane foamMy idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
beowulf 1 #7 December 16, 2005 I was told by a Sunpath Rep. that to add it would be like having to redo the entire container. It would be cheaper to just buy a new container.

riggerrob 643 #10 December 16, 2005 So they are using the fancy, high tech, Tempur foam in Javelins. Cool! Way more sophisticated than the neoprene that Mirage was using a couple of years ago. What is Relative Workshop using these days?
aubsmell 0 #11 December 18, 2005 The shizzel is the bomb... both of my rigs have it now... I would not buy another rig without it.... It is not mind blowing or anything, but it is a little bit more comfortable, and a little bit cooler (because the air circulates) As for longevity... that is a good qustion for rigs, my computer bag has it, and I wear that a lot more than my rig with a heaver load in it and it is 5 years old and hasn't shown any wear.. Aerodyne's sponsored team Arcteryx has it on their rigs, and the get jumped ALOT and they have had no problem with it... I have Icons they Aerodyne offers it as an option as well, it is the same stuff that Sunpath uses... Later.."Those who say it cannot be done, should not interrupt those who are doing it"
upndownshop 0 #12 December 19, 2005 Quote I have Icons they Aerodyne offers it as an option as well, it is the same stuff that Sunpath uses... Later.. The Spacer Foam that Sun Path offers seems to be softer to the touch than what Aerodyne offers. Does it make a difference when it is on your back??? Who knows? I do know that Spacer Foam on the leg pads is a great option! Spacer Foam can be added to replacement leg pads if you choose. The Odyssey offers Spacer Foam on the leg pads, laterals, shoulders, and back pad for only $125. Who ever you choose to go with, get the Spacer Foam as an option, its worth it. Have a great day. aubsmell 0 #13 December 19, 2005 Jerry.. That is just batch difference, we get it from the exact same place, the exact same product.. I have a new Icon that has Grey Spacer Foam and it is much softer than any of the black I have ever felt... Take it light..."Those who say it cannot be done, should not interrupt those who are doing it"

Wonder why some would be softer than others, excluding batch differences? Hope you are well my friend. Have a great holiday. J

Disapointed to hear Aerodyne cant retro fit this spacer foam though - requires a new container. The cost of installing it on a completed system is probably not worth it. That requires a complete tear down of the harness & container. Leg pads, I am sure are not an issue to add. Have a great holiday.
 RossDagley 0 #18 December 25, 2005 QuoteIt may not be that the Spacer Foam "cant" be added, almost anything can be done. Have a great holiday. I'm pretty sure its that it *cant* be fitted. I'm having chest rings fitted already, which would require the 'tear down' of the harness. Its a pity, as the Javelin I wore with it was amazing. One of the things I need done is a new backpad because a packer at Perris seemed to like dragging it will stowing the lines. My fault for not watching him closer--but the bottom line is I ended up with a scuff through the parapac backpad right under the links on the reserve risers. I was told the replacement for the backpad was about $220 and an extra $15 if I wanted spacer foam used/added. While not cheap that is far from being so expensive as making it cheaper to buy a new container. Now i've just got to get used to the feel of the new design "cut-in" laterals. be safe kleggo
 Join the conversation You can post now and register later.
