agent_lead 0 #1 December 18, 2005 i just bought a skytronix gfx from para-gear.com i used it today for the first time .. i wore it on my right hand and used an analog alitmaster galaxy on the left cause i didnt really trust it.. turns out on the ride to altitude it was matching fine with my analog alti...but around 3000 the gfx started drifiting off...ending up about 900 feet higher then where i really was... we exited at 9600...all the altis including the planes said this number...but my $260 gfx told me we exited at 10,510 has anyone else used one of these..i know they are fairly new on the market and just wondered if anyone else had any prior issues with this..-------------------------------------------- www.facebook.com/agentlead
LouDiamond 1 #2 December 18, 2005 What's the ground elevation of your DZ, is it some where around+/- 910 ft?"It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
agent_lead 0 #3 December 18, 2005 no its about +50 the gfx does not allow you to reset the ground level untill your in the plane ?? does that make any sense??it only allows you to do that in flight mode while you are climbing...untill then you cant really do much with it...-------------------------------------------- www.facebook.com/agentlead
nate_1979 9 #4 December 19, 2005 Quoteno its about +50 the gfx does not allow you to reset the ground level untill your in the plane ?? does that make any sense??it only allows you to do that in flight mode while you are climbing...untill then you cant really do much with it... Which probably means that it is updating its ground elevation periodicly, or in a "standby / ground" mode. The reason it lets you reset to ground altitude while its in flight mode is that if you drive to a DZ and change altitude alot on the way there, and the thing thinks your climbing in a plane, you can tell it "I'm still on the ground so stop saying I'm in a plane" after the drive. If it's in ground mode, you should be good to go, same thing with my Neptune and Protrack, I never have to tell it that I'm on DZ elevation unless it thinks I'm already in the plane, it updates itself. mandm 0 #5 December 19, 2005 Hi, I just bought a Skytronic GFX last week and had a similar problem: Mine reads accurately on the climb to altitude, but is way off on the way "down", e.g. it tells me I just landed at appr. 1000 ft, opening data etc. was also wrong by appr. 1000ft.. Funny thing is, that it only happened on 4 or 5 of the appr. 20 jumps I made, but still.... I just returned it to Paragear for a replacement- if the new one has the same problem, I will try a Protrack... I wear it on the left wrist, BTW, since I did not like the idea of all that Velcro coming too close to my hand deploy... Hope that helps... :-)
agent_lead 0 #6 December 19, 2005 i just spoke with maureen from paragear.com adn she said the manufacturer sent out teh wrong batteries with the unit... same diameter but thinner...so it may lose contact in the air... i told her this was not the problem as my battery fits perfectly..adn she told me to just ship it back to her and she will replace it... very nice lady too...glad that it was as easy as it was to take care of...just hope it was my unit and not all of them...id hate to have bought something that dosent work...-------------------------------------------- www.facebook.com/agentlead
BlindBrick 0 #7 December 19, 2005 I did a test jump with some recording altis and found something interesting about wrist/hand mounts. If you're like me, you subconsciously turn your wrist when you check your alti. This changes the airflow over the alti and will cause inaccuracies when you look at the jump log. -Blind"If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it." sagan 0 #8 August 4, 2006 Does anyone have any updates on the accuracy issue? I'm finding mine to be inaccurate as well. I've landed it several times with it saying anything from 40 feet to 150 feet.-Patrick
