AggieDave 6 #2 March 17, 2008 All of those are good. Tom Clancy's main series is incredible. So is Vince Flynn's. You know when I was a kid the Hardy Boys were badass. I enjoyed the first few of the Rogue Warrior series, the later books were horrible. Is it a series if there are only two books? If it is then the Force Recon Diaries are incredible.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
moodyskydiver 0 #3 March 17, 2008 Quote Tom Clancy's main series is incredible I liked Tom Clancy up through Rainbow Six but then he just got annoying to me b/c he details you to death describing every little shape of every little nut and screw connected to every valve of every pannel of every hull of every ship yadda yadda yadda....he detailed me to death! Some people like that though *shrug* "...just an earthbound misfit, I." AggieDave 6 #4 March 17, 2008 If you liked Clancy except for the detail then you really need to read Vince Flynn. The Rapp character is a lot of fun to follow. You don't really meet him until the second book, but the first book sets it all up.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Naomi 0 #6 March 17, 2008 I love Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child and am also looking forward to Brisinger (I named my rig after Saphira because she's just awesome). I also like Lee Child's books about Jack Reacher. By far my favorite fictional character EVER. Peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding. AggieDave 6 #8 March 17, 2008 QuoteI also like Lee Child's books about Jack Reacher. By far my favorite fictional character EVER. I'm trying to get into those books. I just read the one about the attempts to assassinate the VP Alexander. Do you have one of those books to read that could help me get into the character and the series.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Shotgun 1 #10 March 17, 2008 I really enjoyed the first few books in Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. But I quit reading about half-way through the fifth book, so I haven't read the entire series.
Naomi 0 #11 March 17, 2008 Definately read Tripwire, but you can really start with any of the Jack Reacher books and get to know the character. You don't have to start at the beginning. peregrinerose 0 #13 March 17, 2008 If you like Douglas Adams, you'd love Terry Pratchett, the Discworld Series. Absolutely phenominal.. same kind of British humor. Robin Hobbs trilogies Terry Brooks earliest Shannara series (although his newest book was pretty good too) Laurell K. Hamilton's Vampire Porn series (ok, it's not really called that, but for mindless smut, it's pretty good) Dennis McKiernan's Mithgar series David Eddings Belgariad Series Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

Naomi 0 #15 March 17, 2008 His nickname should really be "my husband", it has a much better ring to it. Though, I doubt he'd stay around long enough for me to marry him... madhatter 0 #18 March 17, 2008 Many of those already listed are on my shelf. Prefer Dean Koontz to Stephen King, though. Also Robert Ludlum's Bourne series - SO much better than the movies. Anyone read some of Tom Holt's books? GREAT humour. Ye Gods!, Odds & Gods, Paint your Dragon, Nothing but Blue Skies & so many more A VERY MERRY UNBIRTHDAY TO YOU!!! "Time Enough for Love" is one of my favorite books, but I think it's the only Heinlein book I've ever read. I have "Stranger in a Strange Land," and I'll occasionally pick it up and try to read it, but I just can't seem to get into it. I should probably check out some of his other books though. Thanatos340 1 #22 March 17, 2008 Time enough for Love is a GREAT Heinlein Book. Stranger is not the best choose for a first Heinlien book in my opinion. Time enough, The cat that walks through Walls, To sail beyond the sunset, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress would all be better choices for a first Heilein Book. Yes, I Knew about Spider writing the book from Heinleins notes. Spider has always been like Heinlein light anyway. Great choice and I plan on starting the book soon. Melancholy Elephants is one of Spider Robinsons best works. It is a collection of short stories that have his Heinlein influence all over them.

I originally started The Moon is a Harsh Mistress as my first Heinlein but never finished it.We moved apartments and then now we're in the middle of a divorce and a "maybe get back together/cancel the divorce" phase so I never finished it.
