madhatter 0 #1 August 2, 2008 I was travelling on a gravel road last Monday night & some jerk ran me off the road. I only saw one headlight approaching, so thought it was a 'bike, but as we closed I realized the bastard was coming at me on my side of the road! I don't know if he was playing chicken or just drunk, but he just kept coming. I swerved out of the way , lost control on some corrugations & flipped over. Think he would stop & offer assistance? Nah - the SOB sped away! Luckily I just suffered a bump on the head & some bruises. Only bleeding spot was when I cut my hand while crawling out. Just got word yesterday that the car's a write-off. Insurance will pay, but it sounds like it's still gonna cost me plenty as I still owe a shitload
LongWayToFall 0 #2 August 2, 2008 Do you know the make/color of the car? figure out who it is, by staking out by the road at the same time and day. If you are certain, confront the fucker.

madhatter 0 #5 August 2, 2008 The running gear's fine, but all the body panels except the back door are damaged insurance companies have never made sense... A VERY MERRY UNBIRTHDAY TO YOU!!! D.S #
boinky 0 #6 August 2, 2008 Not saying that yours is, but a lot of vehicles nowadays have a "unibody" frame. If that gets out of whack, it'll never be pulled back into a decent condition again. Insurance companies tend to give straight book value on a wrecked vehicle. You MIGHT be able to protest if yours had some extra features, low on miles for the year model or some other form of enhancement that might up the totalled appraisal. Also, you might check with the company that you had it financed with. If it was an automaker, sometimes they will do what is called a "collateral swap." Basically that means that they will find a vehicle that was almost the same as yours and you assume that one and continue paying the loan. Each place is different though. Kick up a little dust with the insurance company. It can't hurt any. And you might get a bit higher totalled estimate! Good luck! vskydiver 0 #7 August 3, 2008 I'm glad your OK! That is the important thing! Cars come and go, money comes and goes, yes it's a hassle with all the paperwork and phone calls to get it straightened out. But at least your still here to do it. It's all good.
