Ummm...I guess. I have tendendices to be assertive but also submissive tendencies- it really just depends on the circumstance.

Now I would say in my overall approach on life I am dominant then- just a little.

I don't gain any sexual pleasure from being a top. It doesn't even arouse me. Every circumstance where I have had to be a top it's been strictly professional. We would have conversation hang out- but as our "roles"- My personal subs enjoyed being submissive and I provided a safe place for them to exercise their fetish.

I have limitations- I would never financially ruin some one, I would never ruin a relationship, I would never permanently scar some one or put anyone in serious risk under any circumstance.

For me- its more of me trying to find my own "identity and role" in life- Now I am not saying that being a dominatrix is my role- but I think the things that I learn from the experience can mold my outlook on life in general. Plus it helps me become a bit more open minded and accepting of those who tend to deviate from social standards. Even if it is throwing bolonga at them while wearing a tutu and a banana suit.:D

Fetishes don't grow over night- they manifest. Thats why I think its important to share things with your partner. (if involved during time) Understand each other's limits and come to a compromise. If you both cannot come to an compromise and you don't support your partner- there will always be someone else who does- even if its a dominatrix.

I haven't noticed too much correlation between overall approach to life and orientation in the BDSM world. There's a common belief that the more domineering people in life tend towards submission in private, but I haven't seen too much evidence of that (nor its converse.)

(Well, to be more accurate I've seen some pretty extreme examples in both directions.)

I've found that a lot of people don't get that there can be a BDSM relationship without sex. I recall seeing one of those People's Court type shows where one of the people on was a pro dom, and at the end the judge said "you can't fool us - we know what you REALLY do in that bedroom/dungeon!" I think that's a common stereotype, akin to the "skydiver deathwish" stereotype.
