Gas and Jump Ticket Prices

Recommended Posts

Please god I hope it's not an 883. :P

Oh yeah price of jump tickets. They will go up. It's just a matter of when and how much. In general I don't worry about it. It costs the DZO more for the fuel, gas for the short bus to pick us up when we land out, etc, etc, etc. We are still supplemented by the tandems. I don't mind a dollar or 2 increase. If they try to screw us and raise it $5, screw them. I'll learn base. ;)

Around this time last year, many DZ's started raising their jump ticket prices in an apparent attempt to keep up their (however slight) profit margins in response to the rising price of gas. It looks like gas prices are going to get even worse this summer. What do you think the chances are that jump ticket prices at some DZ's might again go up? If they do go up, again, how will that affect your jumping habits? Will you jump just as much and just pay more or will you actually cut back a bit in an effort to keep your skydiving budget under control.

Personally, I spent every weekend for about a month, last summer, at a DZ that was further away than other DZ's in my area, because I liked the DZ and the people there, right up to the point where they decided to raise their jump ticket price from 20 to 21. All of a sudden it didn't seem as attractive to me to spend my weekends there anymore.

I was just thinking about this. If you do the math, it really is not that bad (say I plan on spending 5500 hundred for the year):

At $21 dollars a jump, 275 jumps = 5500
At $21 dollars a jump, ~261 jumps = 5500
At $22 dollars a jump, 250 jumps = 5500

So, for the same amount of money, you are only getting 25 less jumps at 22 and 14 less at 21 than you would at 20.

That is not a very big spread at all for the same amount of cash, so that dollar? I ain't too worried. ;)
Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.

The going rate on Jet-A is $1.50 per US gallon.

It is? WHERE? I gotta get some at that price!
Add another .57 and you'd be right on.

Dropzones in competitive environments are not raising ticket prices

Sorry but that isnt quite right.
If the cost of fuel continues to increase, those in competitive markets will raise their prices.
Perris stated so in their latest email letter. I would think that they are in a very competitive market.:)B2

Where are you seeing these fuel prices for Jet A? I have searched the AOPA website for several airports across the country and have yet to see Jet A below $5 a gallon.

what are you paying at your DZ these days?

Did you buy a block of 100 jumps at that price or something?

I bought a block of 50, i can share them with my partner also.

the normal price is only $15 though.

it really surprises me that there is not more people jumping here. there is no swooping (more than 90' approaches) but there is more people not swooping than there are swoopers.

It is $8 a gallon in New Zealand right now and much more in norway.

the US has always had cheaper fuel and only now the real cost of driving big cars is coming into play.

Any idea why that is? I've had nothing but good things to say about Lodi almost every time I've been there.

Lodi seems to get a bad wrap? I can't see why, Bill has been a gentalman to us and positive towards us.

Rubberbands are free, candy is free, coke is only $0.50 as is water, $1 for icecream and gatorade heaps of loads, 3 twin turbines, free camping and $13-$15 jump tickets. $5 hop n pops.

best allround DZ i have been to.

Why is the plane shutting down at 3:00 on weekdays due to not enough fun jumpers??

I cant work it out, why would you pay $27 for a ticket in a nearby dropzone if you are not a dedicated swooper?
