base283 0 #1 June 14, 2008 Any other cubers out there? What's your average time for the 3x3x3 and the 4x4x4? Which method? Take care, space
lawrocket 3 #2 June 14, 2008 I've never been able to solve the 4x4x4. I used to be able to get the 3x3x3 in under a minute. Nowadays, I'd have to be lucky getting it in under 2 minutes. My wife is hotter than your wife.
woady 0 #3 June 14, 2008 My personal best was 2 minutes. I would have tried to get a faster time, but like having a life. You know what's similar between Cops and Firefighters? They both wanna be firefighters.
jellob 0 #4 June 14, 2008 One of my gifted 6th grade students can solve the 3*3 in about 30 seconds while looking at it. With his eyes closed he can do it in less than a minute. At first we thought he had memorized the sequences, but then we would begin the cube sequences and then give it to him to see what he could do. He could always solve it regardless of what we had done to it. When I asked how he does it, he said he was taught to make a decision and then learn all the possible consequences of that decision. I guess that means he just memorizes the mathematical logarithms associated with the cube.
lawrocket 3 #5 June 14, 2008 Exactly. That was about 10 years ago when I had no life. I haven't even picked one up in over a year. Then again, one of my kids ate a couple of the stickers off it it. My wife is hotter than your wife.
JohnMitchell 16 #6 June 15, 2008 Wow! I have to follow the instructions to solve one. I'm good at math and spatial reasoning. I'm just weak on Rubik's cubes.

Whiskeyboi 0 #8 June 15, 2008 My time...about 3 days...(old, senile, slow)... I'm great at critical thinking and figuring out how things work...my brain just doesn't work with the three-dimensional like that....playing fair, anyway... My sister used to take the stickers off of the old cubes (before they were permanently-coloured) and put them in the right place. I used to just take it apart and put it back in the right order...so that would be about 2 minutes...

TFFTM 1 #11 June 16, 2008 3X3x3 best time with the method I use is 1m 15sec avg <~2m I use the layer method. Its quick to learn but can't really be used for sub 1minute. Check out Dan Browns (pogobat) Rubiks video on YouTube. He makes it easy to learn and remember. It is only a few algorithms (8 I think) that have to repeated to obtain a result as opposed to the 1000+ algorithms potentially needed to solva a cube in sub 18s. My 1m15s is due to me taking the layer method and making a few adjustments to the algoritms to help speed up the solving of the first 2 levels. I haven't tackled the 4x4x4 but will as soon as I hit the sub 30s on the 3x3x3 - D BSBD Home of the Alabama Gang
Icon134 0 #12 June 16, 2008 I got pretty far on a 4x4x4 several years ago but I haven't had access to one in years. I do have a 3x3x3 on my desk and I learned how to solve it as a freshman or sophmore in HS using a book that broke down the relatively complex problem of solving the 3x3x3 cube into several smaller parts and provides a good approach to many problem solving. It usually takes me a few minutes and I'm not really doing it for speed. I also enjoy tavern puzzles as well as most spatial/visual type puzzles... linebckr83 3 #14 July 14, 2008 Is Jimmy from France? I have been practicing to try in in freefall as well. I think I'm gonna attempt it at Couch Freaks this year. To be honest I'm kind of disappointed that it's been done before in solo freefall. I thought the only person was Dan Knight who did it during a tandem jump. Ah well, maybe I'll be the first from the U.S.! "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!"
