mdrejhon 8 #1 September 26, 2006 It's almost time to decide the date on Rainbow Boogie 2007. The musical chairs with the date is tricky when one doesn't know when WFFC 2007, Lost Prarie 2007, and SkyFest 2007 is, and you're trying to avoid these dates, and avoid conflicts with peoples' vacation schedules. For Rainbow Boogie 2006, over 100 people registered for Rainbow Boogie 2006 and 40 attended, with some comments that it was one of the best boogies they have attended in a while! The photos and DVD are now available via www.rainbowskydive.com/news. Some silly ideas for coming up with a good calendar date for Rainbow Boogie 2007 Play craps at the casino...? Ask for the birthdate of random cute guys at the local bar...? Numbers taken from a strip poker game...? License number from random page from logbook...? This may just determine the date of.... Rainbow Boogie 2007. (So far, we think the August 2007 ballpark is probably the best, but avoiding the Labour Day weekend since we don't want to compete against other major boogies)

skybytch 273 #5 September 26, 2006 Whoa... you organized a boogie once and that wasn't enough stress for you so you're gonna do it again? You, sir, are nuts. Back to the topic. The last week of July through the first two weeks of August are bad times to have a boogie, as is (in the US anyway) the weekend before, the weekend of and the weekend after Labor Day (weekend before and after are bad cuz people are either waiting for or recovering from Labor Day). June is a good month for a boogie. The last two weekends in September are good (if you'll still have good weather then). The second weekend in July is a good one too. But I really like your idea of random cute guys at the local bar's b-days.

Mikhail 0 #7 September 26, 2006 Second half of June would be very cool - those who will be studying during the summer will have a bit of a cool-off after midterms.
Remster 30 #8 September 26, 2006 My opinion: you're gonna conflict with a boogie no matter when you do it. I'd say plan around another event you want to draw on. I dont know if you plan on running it at Nouvel Air again, but if so, the Diversite festival is a good one to anchor with.Remster
skydiverbrian 0 #9 September 26, 2006 QuoteI'm going to organize a straight boogie. Do you think that would go over well? Sure. After all, it's not your fault you're that way. We accept you for who you are. In a world full of people, only some want to fly... isn't that crazy! --Seal
mdrejhon 8 #10 October 7, 2006 QuoteI'd say plan around another event you want to draw on. I dont know if you plan on running it at Nouvel Air again, but if so, the Diversite festival is a good one to anchor with. We thought so for 2006, but surprisingly almost none of the experienced skydivers went to DiversCite! (Some tandems did come from DiversCite though). Since our focus is attracting experienceds, with tandems being secondary goal, we'd rather avoid conflict with the other major boogies happening late-July to early-August. However, we are considering the weekend after DiversCite, since people can stay a week longer in Canada if they want! Date will be announced at end of this month. Right now we're evaluating the tough question of day-of-week ranges: - Thu-to-Sun - Fri-to-Mon - Sat-to-Tues We found that the last day of Rainbow Boogie (Monday) was extremely quiet. So the 4-day spread (or possibly 5-day) may be moved around. Therefore, a Thursday-to-Sunday date range might be more interesting. On the other hand, a boogie should open with a bigger bang, and thus should start on either Friday or Saturday, even if the final days are way too quiet There's some internal discussion going on in the YahooGroups RainbowSkydivers mailing list too as well. And amongst us organizers (me and Alain) Everyone, you skydivers, who attend an average boogie (not necessarily of our kind), what weekday ranges have the most advantages and disadvantages? Discussion welcome here too as well!
mdrejhon 8 #11 October 16, 2006 Rainbow Boogie 2007 Tentative Date: August 9th (Thu) - August 12th (Sun), 2007 NouvelAir has approved these dates now. These dates have had no objections by any of the skydivers in the RainbowSkydivers mailing list. In brief: - Not too late in August - Does not conflict with known major national boogies - It's the weekend after DiversCite - Thursday-to-Sunday range is better than Friday-to-Monday In more detail: - It's not too late in August that weather would become much worse. It gets a little cold for some southerners late in August and the weather gets rainier. - It does not conflict with any known huge boogies such as WFFC, SkyFest or Lost Prarie. Lost Prairie is the previous weekend (July 28th through August 6th, 2007). While our boogie is very close to this boogie, we can't have Rainbow Boogie 2007 too late in August. - The previous weekend is DiversCite (Montreal gay pride event). Since many out-of-towners for Rainbow Boogie did not go to DiversCite we really don't need to schedule it at the same time. This frees us up to set up a community booth to promote the "RainbowSkydivers community". - Rainbow Boogie 2006 was busier on Thursday than Monday, so we will use a Thurs-to-Sun range rather than Fri-to-Mon range. Most people did not stay for Monday. Last call for discussion. Here's your chance to tell me of any good reasons why Rainbow Boogie 2007 should not be held on these dates ..... Also, the RainbowSkydivers Mailing List is happy to announce a RainbowSkydivers Member Group Meet during the Eloy 2006 Holiday Boogie. About 9 people. If you missed Rainbow Boogie 2006, here’s a chance to meet at least a dozen skydivers of “our kind” while waiting for Rainbow Boogie 2007. Right now, there are 9 possibly attending (6 confirmed), with more people continuing to express interest. Some will attend after Christmas — I will likely be attending December 28th through January 1st, 2007.
SmilingPhoenix 0 #12 October 17, 2006 Cool Idea, Hey - any fellow PFLAGers out there, we should organize a jump at the Boogie! PFLAG = Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (it includes transgender and bisexual as well, but we already had the name and you can only have so many letters in an acronym Because life is an adventure - it may not be the one you planned, but then it wouldn't be an adventure! To be honest, I don't think even having it right after LP will affect your attendance because LP draws mostly Western Canadians vs "Eastern" Canadians and I think the draw for you will be Manitoba and everyone east. You're a LONG WAY (geographically) from those of us in Alberta and BC. Good luck with your event. Looks like you're trying to accommodate the events closest to you (in geography and date), as well as trying to accommodate the sometimes "lovely" weather Canada is known for! Should help with attendance! 'Shell'Shell

You're a LONG WAY (geographically) from those of us in Alberta and BC.Actually, more than half of our attendance was international! So our prime audience isn't even Canada.... For Rainbow Boogie 2007, we expect to be about 1/3 Canada and 2/3 international. (UK, Europe, Australia, Germany.) According to our 2006 registration database, we already know there are well over 100 gay/lesbian skydivers worldwide, with many more who don't even know about us... For example, we got contacted by 3 germans and 2 russians. About half of our attendance will probably be flying in, since our boogie is so unique... narcimund 0 #16 October 17, 2006 We came to the 2006 boogie all the way from Vancouver. If we go again next year we'll definitely pair it with a week in Montreal, or a road tour of Quebec, or maybe dipping down into the states for a vacation. So it's a perfect time for a vacation! QuoteIm asking for my time off now, I will be there this time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Hope you can make it! We will have our new 2007 registration form up later this fall. Keep tuned. And try to arrive the day prior if you can!
