BTW Mark I also ride Air cooled bike remember I know exactly what it's like having heat radiate from the motor, and my Heads are 90 degree transverse. Mind you in the middle of winter i can rest my gloved palms on the rocker covers and warm my hands You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! angrypeppers 1 #53 June 14, 2008 Here's my compromise: 2008 Suzuki V-Strom 650. More street bike than offroad. Plenty of power for two up touring, even here in Colorado. And has a bit more ground clearance than say a SV-650, so mild off road isn't a problem. Needs some knobbies though...Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me. Bolas 5 #58 June 15, 2008 As a newly licensed rider, a motorcycle class graduate, and looking for a first bike, I'll get a used standard or a cruiser. 250 cc if I can find it. Full Givi hard bag set is like having a trunk and get just under 50mpg on tank with mix of city and highway. Just rode down and back from Seattle to Portland this weekend and as always it is a comfy ride! Scott C."He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!" angrypeppers 1 #62 June 16, 2008 I love my V-Strom. I rode about 150 miles yesterday up in the mountains, and it has lots of hp and torque, even at altitude. The 50 mpg doesn't hurt either. It's really the perfect bike for me... Bolas, the Honda Nighthawks are fairly good starter bikes. And consider buying used...you WILL drop your bike!Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
chinchman99 0 #63 June 17, 2008 There is no way you will be disappointed with a BMW. I have a 1996 R1100RS and absolutely love it. My dad has a 2007 R1150RT and it is so very badass. It is VERY fast and comfortable enough to go on 450+ mile/day cruises. If they're not sporty enough, I used to have a Honda Interceptor - they will not disappoint in speed or comfort. EvilEagle 0 #64 June 18, 2008 I have both. I've been a die-hard sportbike guy for years and years. I race a 00 Aprilia Mille R and still ride it on the street occationally. When I lived in England, I rode the Mille all the way to Italy and back, then Finland and back. Last year I bought an 07 BMW R1200GS Adventure. Since buying it, I've put 17,000 miles on the BMW and abot 300 on the Mille. I can drag my knee (and cases) on the GS, but still carry tons of stuff, have my GPS and my heated grips (thank you very much). I've passed many a sportbike in the twisties, although it's not even close when we're talking power! (sportbike all the way) I still get my Mille out when I want to rip for real, but the BMW is awesome. I highly recommend it. Plus, I can put my rig and all my gear in the BMW and ride the twisties to and from the DZ.
Bolas 5 #65 June 20, 2008 Possibly this will be my first bike: http://winstonsalem.craigslist.org/mcy/725195877.html Kinda fits a theme: http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=78545634&albumID=698257&imageID=1092789 The car was named Captain America. Any ideas for a good bike name? Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
