kbordson 8 #101 June 20, 2008 Quote Quote I'm just wondering...why? Why did you take time to do this, post it, then argue about it? I did it because it's fun, I posted it because it's good work, and I argueD because some people are making stupid remarks. Violence, unfortunately, does have a place in our society. In some contexts, those bruises would be considered acceptable - lets say Angie and Brad go fight club on each other like in Mr. and Mrs Smith. As equals sparring or in a movie setting where you can step back and realize that it's fiction. But... as I said in my first post... I, unfortunately, have worked with too many women that looked like that for real. Too many women for whom those jokes aren't jokes. Jokes about how those actions are acceptable aren't that funny to me. I'm not trying to advocate a double standard. Women shouldn't beat their husbands. The Carrie Underwood song, Before He Cheats, is horrid. It's NOT ok to harm others just cuz you felt hurt or betrayed. People just need to be nice to each other (well.... unless you want to hire the services of other dz.commers ) But... back to the original pic. I really do think it looks very realistic. You did a good job with photoshop.
Gawain 0 #102 June 20, 2008 Quote Quote Quote >ood lord people, it's not a chop of domestic violence, it's more like a >mug shot or something. No problem with that, but the comments along the lines of "she didn't know when to shut up!" are creepy. Et tu Brute? So to sum it up: Fake picture of violence against a woman created by a woman - OK. Joking comments by men about said fake picture - Not OK. Absolutely! What . . . didn't you know about the double-standard rule? Works well for culture, race, and heritage differences too. This may be a bad time for me to mention one of the more memorable Army marching cadences about baby seals... Way up north where the air is cold People up there ain't got no gold That's why I make my livin' Killing baby seals Bake 'em broil 'em fry 'em Any way you like 'em Gotta make my livin' Killing baby seals My wife and kids they hate me Liberals try to break me But I gotta make my livin' Killin' baby sealsSo I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! Conundrum 1 #103 June 20, 2008 Quote But... back to the original pic. I really do think it looks very realistic. You did a good job with photoshop. Thanks! That really was the only reason I posted it, not because I think beating on people is cool or fun or awesome. Even though in reality domestic violence is not a laughing matter, a few harmless (obvious) jokes and people get wound up. I admit I laughed because it's purely in jest and I doubt the people making jokes think actual abuse is funny. Anyway, I just 'beat' myself up too. I gotta tell ya, I look stunning. jtval 0 #104 June 20, 2008 Quote not because I think beating on people is cool or fun or awesome. I do. I am a UFC fan. but its not a brutal sport it;s more of a chess match that sometimes gets people bloody. Quote Anyway, I just 'beat' myself up too. I gotta tell ya, I look stunning. downwardspiral 0 #105 June 20, 2008 The UFC is great until some guy catches an elbow to the forehead and blood starts squirting out profusely. Then I just have to cringe. For the guys who posted jokes about spousal abuse....I can't believe you didn't see this coming. Seriously. www.FourWheelerHB.com

MakeItHappen 15 #112 June 21, 2008 I do not often post to bonfire, but this post is so offensive, I have to say something about it. It is worse than calling Obama the N-word or Clinton the C-word. Your insipid portrayal of a woman physically beaten inculcates a long-standing tradition to impute a woman’s (or any other repressed group) place or social situation upon the oppressed segment of society. Your spoof comes across as though it was a mere punctilio in a woman’s life. Your intransigent position (and those of others) augments the lack of exculpation of down-trodden members of our society. You have reinforced stereotypes of ‘It’s all their fault they are in the bad position that they are in.’ The down-trodden are not generally milquetoasts. They may be people that do not know how to cope with an extreme adverse condition that is not their fault. It is people like you that nourish the obdurate people of this world. The polemical comments do not lend credence to your arguments. I do believe that no one will ever accuse you of being sagacious. You are an acolyte for those that wish to continue to abuse the rights of people. .. Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker

In the military we have a saying, "there is always one" meaning there is always one guy who ruins it for everyone. In the case of this thread there are several people who have made statements that are not conducive to this community and the wishes of the site owner. Even in jest, the statements were in very poor taste and inconsiderate of a very serious subject and create an unfriendly environment not only in the Bonfire but on the site. This is not an issue of panties being in a wad or any other excuse that may be used to justify those statements or dismiss others objections to those statements. You are not standing around the bonfire with your close friends on the DZ when you post here, you are making a statement that has a global audience and as such you should consider that your statements may offend others and could come back to haunt you at a later date with subsequent ramifications. It is common knowledge that statements made on Dropzone.com have been used in the employment evaluation process as well as in legal court proceedings. Think before you post.
