Help with Full Face Helmet Options

Hello All,

I have done the past thread searches and found a 2002 discussion on this, but with the newer options out there I am hoping I can ask again. I am planning on buying my first full face helmet. I am 23.5 even and don't wear glasses (love the Lasik)and liked the looks of the A3 but the reviews here are pretty mixed. I like to wear two audibles, but could pocket the Pro-Track if needed.

By the way, if any of you are in the South Bend or SW Michigan area and would like to meet for a drink and talk the sport, that would be fantastic. I am dying up here in the cold with my non-jumping friends.

I love my A3. It's a good helmet.

I don't see the need for two audibles in a helmet. Given enough time I became very annoyed having even one audible in/on my helmet. Sometimes they go off when there's nothing wrong and you just have to listen to them. I've been thru the gadget buying stage at the beginning of the sport. Now I wear a visual altimeter.

Buying more gadgets is spending jump money on unneccessary equipment. Helmet/ Goggles/Altimeter/ Rig/ Jumpsuit (2?) is all you need to skydive.

I have a big melon as well. The two options I am looking at are the Bonehead Havoc and the Paratec FreeZR. Both were really comfortable. The Havoc has a mount for an audible on the outside of the helmet and room on the inside(might be tight against the ears). I believe the FreeZR as room for two inside. I want to try the Bonehead Mamba, but nobody tends to carry the XL in stock. I even stopped by the factory, but they were back ordered and didn't have one either.

I haven't read the reviews but I love my Oxygn. I have an A1 though as I like my pro-track mounted internally rather than on the side. If I need to play with it I can always take it out!

take a look at the Z1 as well. My friends who have one don't have any complaints with them.

YUp... there is.. the trick is to take out the lilttle jaw pads.. and remove the foam rubber from inside so the Protrac fits better against your ear. I love the Paratec.. and I had a Havok.... I sold the Havok and now use the FreeZR for speed shydiving. THe Havok rattled WAY too much at 250 MPH+

I did love the way the Havok opened which was FAR superior to the other full face helmets that I tried with the little tiny release button up front that was nearly impossible to push and open... and when it was cold and wet.. they would fog up realllly badly.

(I'm new but couldn't let this slide by ) For freeflying, audibles are recommended by the SIM (2 of them), by the APF, by the freeflyers at my dz ... I used a single one for a while, now have two, both set the same.

I wouldn't consider a helmet that doesn't fit comfortably with the audibles in place.

You can have it good, fast, or cheap: pick two.

I was looking at the Havoc and went with the Mamba instead. Very secure due to the way they set up the helmet, the neck roll tightens when you buckle the chin strap. The face shield is nice and wide for peripheral vision - I had no problems seeing my handles. The security of the face shield is very good, as well - it takes a good squeeze from both hands at the temples to unlock it.

I wear a 7 5/8 to 7 3/4 hat, so unless you have a REALLY huge head, they should be able to hook you up.
