murrays 0 #101 June 3, 2008 So much for my prediction! Fleury played outstanding tonight for the Pens. masterrig 1 #102 June 3, 2008 Hudler really screwed the pooch on that one! Detroit pretty much handed them that game. First, they give them a goal and Hudler gets a 4-minute major! Fleury and Osgood both, were outstanding. Hell of a nail-biter. I don't know if I can handle a game 6!Chuck
murrays 0 #103 June 3, 2008 I started watching with about 15 minutes left in the third when the Pens were still up 2-1. Then, the Wings tied it and made it 3-2 and I thought it truly was over. The pressure the Wings were putting on the Pens in the third was incredible. I have a lot more respect for Fleury after tonight's game. He truly was outstanding. 58 to 32 Shots on goal for the Wings! A well deserved First Star! Chuck, are you watching the games on NBC? Up here I watch the CBC coverage and hardly ever hear Crosby's name. I think the US networks are engaging in a whole bunch of star creation to drum up interest from the sounds of their commentary. The best shot I saw Crosby take was when he was offside and didn't hear the whistle. Between periods we have Don Cherry extolling the grinders that work their asses off, don't wear visors and give 100% every shift. So, we get a bit different perspective.-- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
masterrig 1 #104 June 3, 2008 I wish, I could get CBC! I've got satellite but don't get CBC. I have to suffer through these mindless NBC announcers and their 'love fest' for Pittsburgh! It gets to the point of sickening. That little weasel Pierre McGuire, even got into what the Penguins probably had for a late meal and how it was granola bars and lots of hydration after that. Every other word out of his mouth is Crosby. Then, when Gonchar got hurt, he was moaning how tough it would be for the Penguins without him. With CBC, you get good, un-biased, honest coverage of the game. I don't care who is playing. Over here, yeah, they'll get hold of one guy and shove him down our throats about how good he is. Don't get me going about the officiating! Somebody got to somebody is all I can think of. That was some of the worse I've ever seen in all the years I've watched hockey. Could you guys maybe, get something going up there where CBC would cover the play-offs down here next year? What a ray of sunshine that would be!!! masterrig 1 #105 June 3, 2008 After seeing the re-play of the Hudler 4-minute major, It appeared to me that, Hudler was falling and was just trying to break his fall with his hands and the stick flew up. I couldn't see where there was any 'intent' on Hudler's part. I really question that call. About that time, good ol' Pierre starts screaming about the medics looking for blood on the injured Penguin. Then, Pierre shrieks like a little girl about; "The found BLOOD! They found BLOOD! It appeared too that, the officials had the Wings off their game. All the whining Pittsburgh (Theirien) about obstruction, Homer can't do his job. Could this be the first time a team 'whines' their way to the Cup?Chuck
murrays 0 #106 June 3, 2008 I just checked to see if the CBC coverage was available on iTunes...it is @ $1.99/game but it is the NBC coverage.....in the Canadian iTunes store....that just ain't right!!! You can see quite a bit of the CBC commentary and highlights on the cbc.ca website...just go to the sports and Stanley Cup area. This could now become a very interesting series... Fleury just had the game of his life when Osgood looked tentative and seemed to lack confidence (according to the CBC commentators). A hot goalie at the right time perhaps??? Malkin and Sykora combined on the winner...first points of the series...have they started to get on track? Should be a good Game Six!! Murray Quote I wish, I could get CBC! masterrig 1 #107 June 3, 2008 I really appreciate the info. During the regular season, I get all the hockey channels and faithfully watch 'Hockey Night In Canada'. I don't care what anyone says... Don Cherry is cool. The guy tells it like it is and is honest in what he says. (His suits remind me of the little gangster guy in the old Bugs Bunny cartoons). A lot of people don't like the guy but that's their choice. CBC's coverage of hockey in general, is excellent. Duh me! "It's a Canadian Game!" Last nights game was a for sure, nail-biter. I still think, there were some lousy calls. Especially by the ref who was way the hell and gone at the blue line and calls obstruction on the Wings. Like you said, Fleury had the night of nights and Ozzie on the other hand, did look fatigued. The call on Jiri Hudler goes down as one of the worst I've ever seen! Hudler was falling and there was no 'intent'. I just hope, there are better refs at the next game. The refs in last nights game looked bought-off, to me. I hope too, Babcock plays Ozzie again. The guy has been terrific throughout the play-offs. If Hasek was in net, the Wings would've been out of the play-offs a long time ago. Thanks again! skydiver30960 0 #108 June 4, 2008 What are all the skyfest peeps going to do if this goes to game seven? Elvisio "big screen at the DZ?" Rodriguez
masterrig 1 #109 June 4, 2008 Either big-screen t.v. or everyone brings their lap-top! I think, it'll all be over tonight... I hope! edit to add: I think, this is really going to be one helluva game, tonight! You got Pittsburgh with big hopes and a fat chance of tying-up the series and Detroit fighting to end it tonight. Right now, Detroit does not want a game-7. Gary Bettman would love that, just to show the 'non-hockey' world what an exciting, wonderful game, hockey is. Now, if they only get the reffing straightened-out and they quit making stupid calls. I would go ahead and sign-up for the first load on Saturday! lippy 918 #110 June 5, 2008 I'd tend to agree with you right now with Detroit up 2and half the game over....But after I 'called' game 5 with 10 minutes left in regulation, I'm just gonna sit back and see what happensI got nuthin
murrays 0 #111 June 5, 2008 Soft second goal that Fleury should have had...and Osgood robbed Gary Roberts...ROBBED him. Could easily be 2-1 Penguins....such is hockey. skybytch 273 #114 June 5, 2008 Great last 90 seconds. Too bad the Penguins fans didn't give the Wings the love they deserved while they were skating with the Cup. So... when does hockey season start again?
grimmie 186 #116 June 5, 2008 What? The Pens fans stayed for a long time politely clapping. They gave a huge ovation at the end of the game. What did you want them to do, get the Wings a Permani Brothers sammich and an IC Light or Yuengling?????? This is HOCKEY not golf!!! Yuns guys played great!!! GO PENS!!!! Just getting ready for next year!!! Good job Red Wings, very impressive Cup win.
masterrig 1 #117 June 5, 2008 I had to miss the game.We were under a fire emergency and possible evacuation. Several thousand acres of grassland was burned as well as power poles. The power went out with 8-min. 12-sec. left. The power just came back about 1:00AM. I was getting my horse to a safe place and beat it back to the house. Anyhow, I guess, I missed one helluva game. The Wings had their work cut-out for them. After 2-shut-outs, the Pens came back with a vengeance. Good-good hockey. YEA WINGS! Chuck
AnKaLi 0 #118 June 5, 2008 hey hey hockeytown! Sucks though, I stayed up the other night to watch them win....watch them lose, and I was whooped tired and fell asleep during the game last night! DOH!
masterrig 1 #119 June 5, 2008 Day 2: The fire is still burning and the winds aren't helping. We have 3-air tankers and 2-helo-tankers, fire fighters from neighboring counties as well as the U.S. Forest Service, Texas Forest Service, units from Oklahoma, New Mexico and Mexico. Right now, the winds are out of the West. If, it shifts to the Southwest, it could get real ugly. I'm not leaving!!! Talk with y'all later. I wouldn't call what I saw at the end of the game a huge ovation - more like polite clapping. If *my* team had gotten beaten in the finals, I'd have clapped loud and hard for the team that beat them. Was pretty obvious that both teams wanted it by the way the both played. I'dve feel like a real putz if I didn't show respect. But then again, I'm still a tourist as far as being a hockey fan goes...
