Gawain 0 #26 May 25, 2008 Quote Oh and besides I didnt say who to revolt against. I say we shoot one politician for ever dime the price goes up. If they doesnt get them conerned and make them fix the prob (gov't spending) than at least we'll eventually run out of the scumbags. My reply wasn't meant to be focused solely at your post. My point is this (at a local and federal level): It is our own government that has made it impossible to build a new refinery in the past 30 years. Our own government that has mandated dozens of formulations, requiring costly refitting of the existing refineries twice a year. It is our own government that has mandated ethanol production from corn, the cornerstone of the world's food supply. It is our government that 12 years ago would not allow even exploration in Alaska (the argument then was it would take ten years to produce anything, now here we are 12 years later and nothing to show for it). It is our government that has forced a decrease in domestic production from nearly 8-9m bbls per day in the mid-80s to under 5m bbls today. The new energy bill signed late last year has the potential to wipe out the shale-oil exploration which is a huge resource for Canadian export. So, while I don't advocate shooting anyone over this, it's time to get priorities in order. Attacking the livelihood of our country for the sake of some deer in Alaska that don't even live in the north slope of ANWR is not the answer. I own stoke in some of these energy companies, and I'm making my voice heard with them. They have got to find a way to out maneuver eco-lobby and let the market fix this problem without government intervention. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! AKCrash 0 #27 May 25, 2008 Tampa, Fl $3.85 regular. By the way, was this picture taken when Clinton was in office?? I called my dad to ask him how much gas was back home, Saudi, and after doing the calculations I found that their gallon is $0.61"Those who would give up Essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety" Franklin
Amazon 7 #28 May 25, 2008 Quote You mean the leases they pay for... I see your and raise you Hell I would pay a couple hundred dollars too if I could make a few billion off of it. Face it mining and extractive industries pay squat compared to what they make off of it. Just remember it is coming from PUBLIC LAND> http://www.commondreams.org/headlines06/0214-01.htm WASHINGTON - The federal government is on the verge of one of the biggest giveaways of oil and gas in American history, worth an estimated $7 billion over five years. It's one of the greatest train robberies in the history of the world. It's the gift that keeps on giving. US Rep George Miller New projections, buried in the Interior Department's just-published budget plan, anticipate that the government will let companies pump about $65 billion worth of oil and natural gas from federal territory over the next five years without paying any royalties to the government. ChasingBlueSky 0 #29 May 25, 2008 Quote Gas rises in price twenty cents a month. In the last two weeks it jumped 20 cents. I hope they arent trying to double their profits again. Its almost time to fucking revolt . Two weeks? On the way to work Thursday morning I watched the pump flip 10 cents as we were filling up. Then on the way home it was another 8 cents more._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... DFWAJG 4 #30 May 25, 2008 Quote Poor Ford is crying for lost profit - Well jeez, maybe they would have figured out people aren't looking for so many huge SUVs anymore? Interestiingly, Henry Ford created a car made of Hemp plastic and was developing a car that would run on biofuels (notably, hemp). Damn that DuPont! Who, with friends, tricked the government into banning hemp production.
novacaine 0 #31 May 25, 2008 Quote How long you think it'll take until we're back to the 70's? Signs at stations with NO GAS written on them, lines around the block...Gerald Ford comes back into office...oh, wait... I few weeks ago a few gas stations by my place had signs saying there were out of gas. It is a bit scary to think that history is once again repeating itself. Though the sadder state of mind is that last year the big 5 oil companys had a profit of about 35B combined... must be nice to have that kind of income!! sharimcm 0 #32 May 26, 2008 I thought I was getting raped when I paid almost $40 to fill up my Honda del Sol. Gas is about $3.79 - $3.89 in Austin. I guess it's not so bad after I see what everyone else is paying. They also paid the highest amount in taxes ever recorded as well so there are 2 sides to it. If you look that their actual profit margin they really didn't increase at all. Last time I drove Victoria to Austin and back I saw a range in prices of about 30 cents. Austin and Victoria were within 5 or 10 cents but places in the middle (mostly close to I-10) were upwards of 30 cents more. INSANE!Killing threads since 2004. They're already taxed twice, you want to tax them thrice? The USA has the second highest corporate tax rate in the world. ExxonMobil is the easy target, so I'll start with them, guess how many developments they hope to start this year in the US (project Thunder Horse) - one. ONE. Guess how many they'll be starting up in the rest of the world (northern Europe, western Africa, middle east and Asia). Eleven. Gross income was massive, net income was 9% of that. It's not like these companies aren't already forced to spend billions just to satisfy the ankle biters. It takes years to see the real returns on the investment. Bottom line numbers: 2007 Annual Report Total Revenue and other Income: $404.552B Total Costs and Deductions: $334.078B -- of that taxes and duties: $31.728B (sales based tax) $40.953 (other tax and duty) Net income before taxes: $70.474B Income Tax: $29.864B (that's 41%) Net income: $40.610B The biggest deduction was about $199B in crude oil PURCHASES (for refining), which cost another $30B to make fuel. I don't blow a tank of gas to just "hang out" or socialize anymore.
