Pollen Alergies and Honey...

Recommended Posts

In the last few weeks with the rising pollen count my alergies have been acting up. This morning I had remembered several years ago my sister had suggested that eating locally produced honey daily could help aleviate or at least reduce your bodies reaction to pollen.

It sort of made sense as the honey is produced from the local pollens and is easier for the body to process and should allow the body to adjust to the pollens in a more controled manner.

Has anyone else heard of this sort of thing?

Yup,
The reason being that honey is an antioxidant. The darker the honey the stronger an antioxidant it is.

Now it could be that there is something more to local honey as it would have come from pollen of local plants. I don't know about that.

Wouldn't a simple dose of vitamin C be just as effective then? (not that I'm saying it isn't...)

I sort of understand what you are saying though...

That is a big nope. Vitamin C does not repair your body, antioxidants do.

Vitamin C could be helpful though, if you take the right type ;)

Not to rain on your parade there bud... but last I checked Vitamin C is in fact considered an antioxidant... (not the only one by any means but it is one)

Maybe I'll just call the Doc and get some Claritin... but I'll probably get some local Honey too so I can saitiate my sweet tooth and annoy my dentist... :D:ph34r:

Yes, it really helped me. Go to your local farmers market and buy the honey with the honeycomb. That works alot better. Then chew away!

I never enjoyed eating honeycomb growing up... my dad kept honeybees for several years when we were kids but as many times as I tried honeycomb I never really got to liking it...

Maybe I'll give it a go again... :)
