EKG interpretation

Recommended Posts

I just passed the test, which separates men from boys (according to my instructor), Cardiology I in paramedic school.

However, I feel very rusty with EKG Interpretation as I failed to see obvious ones.

Does anyone here suggest a good EKG interpretation books?

Congrats....Cardiology was a bitch. I went thru medic school 18 years ago and still have nightmares about Second degree block type 1 and 2:D....Google a guy called Bob Page. He's the director of St.John's Springfeild EMS( in Missouri) He has alot of great info on EKG interp. He also offer an Excellent class called Multi-Lead Medic. If you ever get the oppertunity I'd highly recommend it.....As far as EKG books, just get a new ACLS manual or AMLS manual...they have some pretty good basic rythem interp. info and examples.

Good job.. I did not make it thru cardio in my program and they sent me packing.
I got a 76% on my final and you have to pass with a letter grade of a C wich is 80% in the JCCC program here in KC.
I am going back to school in one week though.. anyway good job and stay the course I know it can be hard.

Good luck next time. We too need 80% or better to pass. I still have Cardiology II to worry about. So that's why, beside the fact that I dont wanna kill any1 I work onB|, I need more practice.

Completely agree.
Makes ECG's really simple and easy to remember.
The only problem is that there aren't any practice strips.

I think I still have some practice sites in my school computer, let me know if you would like them.

ECG's are alot of fun:)I love them

Honestly, so did I. When I did my cardiology rotation, my attending told me "when you decide to do cardiology, let me know where to send the letter of rec." I laughed... I enjoyed cardio.... but watching the babes heart beat is even more fun. B|

In addition to Dubin I also thought Clinical Electrocardiography: A Simplified Approach (Paperback) by Ary L. Goldberger had a many good strip examples :)

ok so I just bought Rapid EKG interpretation by Dubin, and a workbook: ECG workout. Also, I ordered Clinical Electrocardiography: A Simplified Approach

Thank you all for the recommendations. That was very helpful.

Now that I spent nearly spent 7 skydives worth on EKG books, I would be very disappointed if I dont get a good grade on Cardiology II test.

By the way, I heard some shocking info about Dr. Dubin. The author of that good EKG book. Anybody heard something about him?

Yeah. Two weeks ago I did a cardiac stess test and ultrasound imaging, which confirmed that an EKG I had was wrong.

I would LOVE to learn a little more about reading the damned things. That EKG I had was an asshole.

Hey, quick question....

Is there a difference between an ECG and an EKG? I had an EKG last week (that is a long story....), but when I looked at the machine, it said ECG on the side. The nurses kept calling it an EKG.

They hooked me up with 12 leads. What exactly does an EKG do anyway? I went to sick call to have my blood pressure checked, it was a little high (not hypertensive), but they insisted on giving my an EKG. It really freaked me out!!

Thanks
glad to be here!!

so... do tell!!!!!

geees.... what kind of a gossip are ya if you don't actually tell all the good stuff!

Well..

I heard that the guy is a total pervert. He is not a cardiologist. He is a plastic sergeant. Back in the day, he used to have a clinic in which patient comes to sign in while no one in the office was there to greet them. His reception area has a camera there, so that’s how he knew that his customers arrived.

Well.. the kicker is that he was also taping in patient under inappropriate circumstances. As a matter of fact, he was found guilty of sedating his patient and f**king them.

I was told that he stopped practicing medicine after that or was forced to. He was also jailed

Funny thing how a guy like him writes a book that is very well known!

Regardless, still the best book for understanding EKG's.

"The Only EKG Book You'll Ever Need" by Malcolm S Thaler. ISBN 0-7817-1667-5

And "Rapid Analysis of Arrhythmias" by Emanuel Stien ISN 0-683-30655-3.

Even after 20 years on the street, I still learned from those books when I took a class in cardiography when I was a exercise physiology major. I highly recommend them.
