Any Torontonians here?

Recommended Posts

Is that what you call those who hail from Toronto, Torontonians?

Anyway, I would like to know what is good to do in the area in Late December early January.
We'll be there and can spend a few days in the area (ans surrounds) so what's a must do/see in the area?

I'm in the East end and one of the other DZ.com peeps lives Down Town. I'll get you a list of a few of the better must do things around here.

I've only been to Toronto once, when I was in college at Rochester, NY, and that was 22 years ago. The Eaton Centre Mall was pretty big then, and I had my first legally bought beer at the restaurant on top of the CN tower. :D

In 6th grade we took a class trip to the CN Tower, The Science Centre, Castle Loma, The Spagetti Factory (big pizza place) then Niagra Falls.

Blondie's "Heart of Glass" was playing on the radio every five minutes that week.:D:|

Wow you look a lot older than i thought you were, I was in the military when that was a hit:|

With respect to Toronto, are there any "day trip" type activities so i can get a look at the surrounds.

What other "nearby" cities are worth visiting?

From Toronto we make our way overland to New York, what to see on the way ???

Toronto is a world class city.....

lots of good things,,, Restaurants, stores, THEATER,,,, many many theaters,, and some great first rate shows......saw the Lion King and Mama Mia, there.....
Lots of world tour Musicians, play there...

CN Tower and the Home of the Blue Jays. A.L. Major League Baseball..... They Play in the SkyDome.....
NICE people...
in years past, our club,,, in western NY has had many many a visitor from Canada,,, many who have become regulars at the DZ....

.. Nice people , Eh?????
... We can SEE Toronto even from just 1000 feet AGL,, whenever the weather is clear...
Lake Ontario separates us. The drive around the western edge of the Lake takes a couple of hours, ,, But as the bird flies, we are less than 50 miles south of that city...

Night jumps , are fantastic at our club... The broad expanse of the Lake lays beneath us, as a dark void, while the lights and shoreline across the way, glisten like a million little stars.....

Be sure to have your passport handy, as you cross between Canada and the USA, over one of 3 bridges...
They have recently become VERY fussy about visitors, having the proper identification....

there are many dz's with an hour or an hour and a half of Toronto...

attached,,,, Niagara Falls,,,, one is from the ground, ( note the sightseeing ship, "the maid of the mist",,, waaaay up near the Falls, and almsot hidden by the mist...) That ship is BIG and carries over 100 visitors at a time....
The other shot was taken from the open door of the C 180,, while climbing to altitude, at Frontier Skydivers, in western NY...
Last pic (frame grab,,, by B Germain) shows jimmytavino and Nancy B. in freefall with Lake Ontario, behind us...

Pretty Cool EH???????
hahaha
safe travels Squeak.....

Yes.
didn't realy key into the time frame of your visit
until a second reading of your post.

dec and january....??? Yikes!!!!:oB|
well, let's just say it's not warm and sunny !!! at that time...:D
N falls,,, with ice formations, is very nice though..and for sure the crowds are smaller...
The city of Niagara Falls, Canada has a fun, busy and active downtown area.. On a bit of a hill , heading downhill to see the Horseshoe Falls, which is most impressive and is the Canadian Falls. The streets are full of shops and stores, food places and theaters. Many hotels have been built and now in the past ten years or so, Casinos are part of the fun.....
Might not even be necessary to enter the US....The American falls is to the south, and is separated by Goat island...( the first pic. posted earlier is the american the second one , is canada...)B|

Now if it was summer time here,,,, then it's different,,,, you'd have to visit the dropzone...here in New York;);)
so yes. keep me posted.

I'm not planning on jumping in the North, all the jumping is going to be in Zhills, Atl,, Eloy and LA.

Looking to see the places and meet the people in the north, get a taste of the culture :)

Sounds like a nice place

The "Center of the Universe" being labelled a nice place? Haha ... that's just too funny.

Be prepared for anything. You could luck out and enjoy your stay. But you could also get stuck in some of the nastiest traffic for 1/2 of your time there (traffic jams occur at anytime of the day). Southern Ontario (which makes up metro Toronto and the surrounding cities from Oshawa down to Hamilton) is massive. Urban sprawl on a grand scale rivaled by only a few other areas. It is the 4th largest metropolitan area in North America following only New York, LA and Chicago. You say you will be there in January? Roll the dice in terms of what to expect with the weather. You could luck out and have some nice "global warming" conditions, or you could get stuck in a classic Great Lakes blizzard. Better to hope for the best while preparing for the worst.

In summary, the "Center of the Universe" (Torona) is worth visiting, but you would never catch me living there. I will spare you my reasons why I dislike the place, but it is a lengthy list.

PS: as much as I hate the Toronto Maple Leafs (the NHL hockey team) and as obnoxious as their media can be, I do have to take my hats off to the actual fans of the Maple Laughs. For an organization who more often than not "disappoints", they have some true blue "real" fans following the team. Ughh ... that hurt me to admit this (haha). But it is true.
