happythoughts 0 #1 May 9, 2008 People love having RVs because they can come and go as they please. Plus, they get to bring all the stuff that they like. So, I was looking at one of those huge container ships and thinking... cruise line. You call up the local trucking company and say that you want to deliver your container to the docks on some date. Away you go. Clothing, food, stuff... it's all there, just as you like it. You get your own personal interior decor. You show up in Europe, drop it on a rental truck and zoom... If you want less involvement, just cruise around the Caribbean on the container ship, maybe through the Canal... When you get home, the crane just plops you back on the dock. Think of it. The worlds only totally customized cruise line. How cool is that? (Note: this is only an idea, at this point.)

JohnMitchell 16 #4 May 9, 2008 Hmmm, you'd have to run the numbers to see how that would compare to just renting a car and staying in a hotel. I don't think I'd do it. I don't really have a car, food, or enough crap to stuff in a container for week or so transit. Amtrak has a Washington, D.C. to Orlando train that has a rail car for your automobile to ride. I don't know how popular that option is. I thought this was going to be a joke, a photo shopped container ship with a bunch of single wide mobile homes and camp trailers on the top, maybe some laundry on a clothesline. happythoughts 0 #6 May 9, 2008 There used to be people who showed up at the convention with a Uhaul 5-ton pulling a trailer with ATVs. Roll down the door, throw out the couch... It's like a 40 ft custom RV. Or... the cruise line could just have a website with pics of the interiors of the containers. You go to the website, pick out the setup that you like. It's like that Rooms-To-Go furniture place. Then, a week before, you ship a couple of suitcases down. You show up, your clothes are in the closet. The container (room) is put on the ship. You just cruise around the Bahamas... I never thought computers would be that popular either.

homer 0 #11 May 9, 2008 Aside from having your container put on the bottom row in the middle of the ship, you can actually book cabin space on most ships if there is room. I believe you can just show up at the docks as ask for a ride. The cost from what I understand is pretty cheap. Although, I’m sure the night life is less than desirable.
