BillyVance 34 #4 May 2, 2008 Bitching! I got a perfect 10 out of 10! Hey, I was really good at English in school. It's the math that I suck at. This is why I can't understand how I picked my job field in architecture... I probably should have been a writer. BillyVance 34 #6 May 2, 2008 Quote i thinnk i skip out on that one.. No shame in that. It's a hard language what with words having multiple meanings for the same spelling, diction, grammar and all that shit. I had very good English teachers growing up. jcd11235 0 #20 May 3, 2008 QuoteThere is a grammatical error in one of the sentences that they do not point out. Hint: It's a comma splice. Are you referring to the use of the Oxford comma in sentence ten? It's correct either way, but in that case, the comma helps clarify the sentence. However, sentences 3, 4, 6, and 10 are sentence fragments. QuoteYou don't use a comma before a conjunction. Sometimes you do. If the sentence contains two or more independent clauses, then they should be separated by a comma and a coordinating conjunction. Example: Packing is fairly easy, but it can be frustrating to learn. Commas can also be used following the next to last item in a list. Example: The colors of his canopy are green, red, and yellow. In this case, the last comma in the sentence is sometimes referred to as an Oxford comma and is sometimes not used. There is valid reasoning for both methods, but writers should be consistent.Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials! popsjumper 2 #23 May 3, 2008 Quote 9/10. Stationery/ary got me. Yeah..me too. One thing though. There's Spell Checkers and there's Grammar Checkers. I thought this was a Spell Checker exercise. So tell me, when did Spell/Grammar get all rolled together into simple Spell Checker? Yes, I'm old skool. And on top of that, the "checker" used in the test sucks since it didn't pickup the fragments. My 9/10 means nothing except that I'm stupid enough to sit here and go through it...and then respond to it. NWFlyer 2 #24 May 3, 2008 QuoteI thought this was a Spell Checker exercise. The point of this one was that the spell checker will not save you from mistakes. Each of those words was correctly spelled. But still wrong. The company I worked at fresh out of college did a lot of contracts for the federal government's various health care agencies. As such, we used the word "public" quite a bit. Consequently, we found it important to remove the word "pubic" from our spell checker."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. jcd11235 0 #25 May 3, 2008 Quote BTW...screw all you comma nazis. I generally am not a big fan of perfect grammar and certainly don't follow all the rules in an informal setting. (I do despise terrible grammar by native speakers, but I usually give a lot of slack to people who speak and write English as a second language.) In fact, I've actively resisted learning formal rules since about the seventh grade. However, on rare occasions, just to prove to myself that I still can … Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour!
