Which bourbon?

Recommended Posts

OK, I'm going to bed & let the people who know about these things battle it out...

I've always been partial to Jim Beam White label, but recently the Black label (8 years old) variant has become available here in SA. It's actually imported by friends of mine, so I've been able to sample both quite extensively ;)

The new JB seems too woody for me to be enjoyed neat. If I had to, I'd rather go for Jack if there's no other choice, although I've also enjoyed Wild Turkey.

These are the bourbons most common in SA, so I'd like some opinions on which you guys prefer :)

Maker's Mark or Knob Creek on the rocks... Jack for mixing with Diet Coke.

Why ruin it with coke? Shoot... right out of the bottle. :P
Ick... as much as I love Jack, he's not good straight.

must be a story about you and some guy named Jack, details please, oh and pictures too:)

MMM Jack! Yummy!

Ummm, technically Jack Daniels, like George Dickel, isn't bourbon. It's Tennessee whiskey. Different distilling process. ;)

Let see..........Beam and Turkey (kicken chicken)are ok for mass produced Bourbon, Jack isn't even a bourbon, it's a Tennessee whiskey. Not even in the same ball park as a bourbon.

See if you can find Woodford Reserve, Knob Creek or Pappy Van Winkle. The last one might be difficult to find in SA.

And god forbid don't ruin a good bourbon by putting anything other than water and/or ice in it.

Yup, AFAIK if it is clarified with charcoal before aging, it can't be called burbon

and it isn't made in Kentucky.

Never would I commit such a heresy as drinking a good whisky or bourbon mixed with something! Some of the lesser ones, well...

I never realized the difference between Bourbon & Tennessee whiskey.

This is what Wikipedia has to say: Tennessee_whiskey & Bourbon_whiskey.

Thanks for the heads up & I'll see if I can find some of the ones mentioned :)
