JohnRich 4 #1 April 24, 2008 I saw this odd bumper sticker the other day on the road:"Someone I love was murdered"That struck me as a very odd thing to broadcast to the public. What is the motive for placing that sticker on her car? What message is she trying to send? Does she want people to pull her over and give her a big hug of sympathy? Is she advocating against murder? That would be silly, since everyone is already against it, and the bumper sticker isn't going to change anyone's opinion in that regard. It's not like a large percentage of the population is in FAVOR of murder, and that by seeing a sticker associated with a victim's family member, those few murderous criminals are going to change their evil ways. I could understand if it was a message against drunk drivers, or something like that. But this one doesn't target any specific cause. So what the heck do you suppose this is all about? What kind of psychology is going on here?
nopurpose 0 #2 April 24, 2008 My cousin was killed by a drunk driver when he was 16. This was about 10 years ago. After the accident, my Aunt became really involved with MADD, going to high schools and giving speeches and whatnot. She has a bumper sticker on her car that says, "A Drunk Driver Killed My Son." I remember the first time seeing that and thinking, "Wow that ought to get someones attention." But I never understood why you would want to tell the world something like that with a bumper sticker. ACMESkydiver 0 #5 April 24, 2008 Seems like a pretty clear statement against violence. I'd think she/he wants to put a face to the suffering that the violence brings. Pretty common way to deliver a message. Same reason I had a 'Cure Autism Now' sticker in the front window of our house & used to have it on our truck. Now you see them everywhere, and maybe somebody somewhere will start to wonder why they are seeing stuff on every other vehicle about Autism.~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. Mainly to make people who see the sticker think, especially those with a propensity to drink and drive."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
SpeedRacer 1 #7 April 24, 2008 I am confused as JohnRich is. when someone drinks & drives, they're not TRYING to kill someone or get in an accident. They were just at a bar or party & had a few too many & then stupidly got behind the wheel. But a sticker that says "someone I know was murdered" is different. If someone intends to commit murder, they usually murder a specific person for a very specific reason (unless they're crazy). I guess maybe I was thinking that a bumper sticker might not be that effective, but I suppose every little bit helps. It does have shock value though. Most times you see a bumper sticker and its just some lame joke, and then you see something like that......

It clearly has a meaning to the lady with the bumper sticker, and I pray I never will understand that feeling. My wife is hotter than your wife. Funniest thing I ever saw was, combined with lots of yellow ribbon magnets, in shoe polish on the rear windshield of a white SUV was "Prey for our troops".
