fpritchett64 0 #1 March 20, 2008 Well, my mom just called me and informed me that one of her cats that has been in the family since I was 10, I'm 23 now got hit by a car this morning. Shes devastated and I'm actually surpised that it's difficult for me to keep a dry eye. I've been to more than several funerals in my life, mostly when I was younger, even losing a grandmother when I was 10 whom I was extremely close to didn't cause me to bat an eye. My best friend was killed my junior year in highschool, and that really tore me up, but other than that, I'm usually not that emotional. Why the hell does it bother me so much over losing a cat that I hardly ever see anymore anyway?...Damn this sucks!
SkydiveStMarys 0 #2 March 20, 2008 Yeah my sister just put down her cat Teddy after owning him for 22 years. Its hard, even harder when you have a pet for as long as that. They are SO part of your life and family. Sorry about your loss.Bobbi A miracle is not defined by an event. A miracle is defined by gratitude.
JustChuteMeNow 0 #3 March 20, 2008 Losing a family pet is really hard and I have also shed some tears. I think it is that unconditional love that they give that always touches me. Hopefully the memories will still make you smile.Think of how stupid the average person is and realize that statistically half of them are stupider than that. BillyVance 34 #4 March 20, 2008 Yes, I cherish the good times and memories that I had with my cats. Each of them have their own distinct personalities. I've had at least one die in my arms from a vicious attack by a pack of dogs, another disappeared, one hit by car also, and so on... I was away in college when my first cat passed away and I'd grown up with him so it hurt not being home at that time. Lastchance 0 #5 March 20, 2008 I posted on here a couple months ago when my wife and I lost one of our dogs. One person replied back that if you add up all the time you spend with a pet compared to the time you spend with other people that you will find that you actually spend a great deal more time with your pets. They are part of the family and you grow very attatched to them. They also give you unconditional love and friendship. I'm so sorry for your loss. I know it's hard. I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.
kschilk 0 #6 March 20, 2008 Terribly sorry for your loss, losing a pet is always tragic...under any circumstances. When loved ones go, a piece of our heart goes with them but when a pet goes, a little bit of our soul goes too. My deepest sympathy."T'was ever thus." yardhippie 0 #7 March 20, 2008 We, the house, lost our doggie Dutchess just about 6 months ago. We still feel that pain. For my wife and I she was our 'kid'. Waiting for us to come home, always anxious for affection, and even more ready to defend. All that blessed our home had to be blessed by her. She ruled with a rubber mallet! For a Rottie, she was the bigges lap dog you'd ever meet. Even my friends that were told of her loss cried, or at least teared up. Our roomate gave me one of the best hugs ever when I was taking her to the vet on the day we knew she wouldnt come home. We've decided to do without pets for a while. I hope you find peace in your loss. Sometimes its not easy. rwieder 0 #9 March 21, 2008 I've been there, done that. I know your pain.I'm sorry for your mom's & your loss. I'm more than certain it will take a while for the grievieng process to run it's course. Animals love unconditionally. You can be having a really horrible day, come home and your greeted by your pet, they smile at you and beg for your attention and they let you "inside" their souls. They hug you and kiss you, and all of the sudden things aren't so bad anymore. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"

fpritchett64 0 #12 March 21, 2008 Thanks so much to everyone for all of the kind words. It really helps out a lot. I called my mom more times yesterday than I normally call her in a month and I'll probably check in on her again in a few minutes. This is just the first pet that I've lost as an adult and it just really shocked me that it hurts just as much as losing a best friend, brother, sister, etc.. Now, if tomorrow would just hurry up and get here so I can go fall out the door of an airplane, I know that'll lift my spirits.
LisaM 0 #13 March 21, 2008 I never used to be an animal person but now that I have my 2 kitties, I too would be devastated. And I've only had them 1 1/2 years! Sorry for your kitty..... ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?
