sJumper 0 #1 March 20, 2010 I need some info/advice please. Been jumping 2.5 years. Getting better every time. Logged about 88. The last 25 or so were with my new gear. Landings were great with some wind. A little fast otherwise. Last jump was November last year. And due to winter & quitting smoking I have gained weight. About 20 -25 pounds. Spring is here, I will slim down again but should I be worried about wingloading & exit weight? I am a competant novice jumper, but no wind landings WERE always a challenge. What should I expect now? Will my approaches be THAT MUCH FASTER? Any helpful advice will be greatly appreciated.
Jbag 0 #2 March 20, 2010 it would be nice to know what canopy you are flying, how much you weigh, where you are jumping etc etc etc...sounds like you arent very current as it is.IHYD
Heatmiser 0 #3 March 20, 2010 Profile says a nitron 170. Nothing about wing loading though. What you say is reflective of your knowledge...HOW ya say it is reflective of your experience. skyjumpenfool 2 #4 March 20, 2010 If you're worried about it, it's and issue! Talk to your insturctors and think about using a student rig for a few jumps until YOU think it's a good idea to jump your canopy.Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." ufk22 33 #5 March 21, 2010 Is your profile correct? Under 100 jumps and a Nitron ? This is not a canopy for for someone with under 500 jumps, especially doing less than 50 jumps/year. Did someone (Bueler, bueler,anyone....??) actually recommend this canopy to you? If so, they should be shot. If you made this decision on your own, it was the wrong decision. Set this canopy aside for a few years (or sell it) and get a canopy that is appropriate for you (non-elliptical, wing loaded at 1/1 for your ideal weight, cause you won't lose as much weight as you think) and learn to fly it.This is the paradox of skydiving. We do something very dangerous, expose ourselves to a totally unnecesary risk, and then spend our time trying to make it safer.

Based only on what you said here, and the fact that you are asking, I would suggest going to a larger/slower canopy for a while. Coming back first thing in the spring, with 25-lbs more on a canopy you call "a little fast" (back in the fall, after a season of jumping). As to how much faster, now we need to get into the details of wing loading/canopy type/etc (25-lbs on the 254-lb e.w. me would not be good, 25-lbs on my long-lost friend Brenda with her 105-lb e.w. would be a vast change.) Just my (chicken-sh!t-skydiver) thoughts, JW Always remember that some clouds are harder than others...
