Shotgun 1 #26 March 11, 2008 QuoteYou will be liable for anonymous posts - a Kentucky based user could file a police report if he/she reads an anonymous posting. The Kentucky courts will fine you (if you don't show up in person to defend yourself). I think website operators would just find a way to block all IP addresses that might originate from KY. (Assuming such a law would pass, which it won't.)
kirrz 0 #27 March 11, 2008 QuoteQuoteFirst, as a "website operator", am I supposed to background check everyone that wants to register?? If the Kentucky law passes, then possibly. You will be liable for anonymous posts - a Kentucky based user could file a police report if he/she reads an anonymous posting. The Kentucky courts will fine you It's true. I studied a case about media law at uni last year in which it was ruled that the place where the website originated (or I guess the post was made) is irrelevant, if it is viewed in a place in which it is breaking the law then it is upheld as having broken that law... This may well be true but the corporation that hosts this site will never be present in Kentucky to answer to the law. If it is in fact not protected by incorporation the summons to appear in Kentucky court must be legally served (as I understand it) within the jurisdiction of the court. So unless that happened Sangiro could not be convicted in absentia.
sangiro 26 #30 March 11, 2008 I found a few other Kentucky Laws in the same league as this one: Kentucky statute says: "No female shall appear in a bathing suit on any highway within this state unless she is escorted by at least two officers or unless she be armed with a club." Later, an amendment proposed: "The provisions of this statute shall not apply to any female weighing less than sixty pounds nor exceeding 200 pounds; nor shall it apply to female horses." In Lexington, Kentucky, it's illegal to carry an ice cream cone in your pocket. Frankfort, Kentucky, makes it against the law to shoot off a policeman's tie. I know for a fact that there's not a website operator on the planet who doesn't go to bed at night worried sick about what law they're passing in Kentucky tomorrow. Quote Thought experiment: If this bill becomes law, do we all still believe that websites are "someone's house"? Could a law requiring all homeowners to identify guests pass? If not, why is a website different? Though experiment: Umm... oooh look! Something shiny! Safe swoops Sangiro

bigway 4 #37 March 12, 2008 I also remember the old day as many of us do. I just dont keep moaning about it and making the problems worse. Look at you, you are getting under HH's skin and you say that you care what happens to this community? bigway 4 #40 March 12, 2008 Nobody is being silent. The owner has said how he wants things and that is that. The running of this site is up to him. if you have a problem send him a pm. If you want to voice your opinion on it in the forums the fact is your opinion does not count on the subject as the only opinion that counts is his. So what is it you have a problem with? Why does your problem mean the owner should change how he wants things? Anyway Mike, good luck with whatever it is you want. I dont want to argue with you. I just think people who have a problem with these forums and how they are run should just leave and let the rest of the community who are happy to participate the way the owner would like things to continue doing that. I dont have a problem with you Mike, I dont even know you. .Karnage Krew Gear Store .

HH is the owner or co owner of several sites, which from what i can see are ALL productive, so he may (just may) have a clue about what he is trying to do.
