Arekas 0 #1 March 9, 2006 Could anybody tell me. Which canopy has stronger shut-down power? Wing loading 1.3 - 1.4.
BIGUN 1,307 #2 March 9, 2006 No. Can tell you I've jumped both and they have different landing characteristics. To me; it's apples and oranges. Sorry.Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
johnny1488 1 #3 March 9, 2006 Its tough to say, one is a 7 cell and one a nine. The Safire2 has a lot of shut down power. But because it is a 9 cell it is going to have more glide both in flight and during the flare. The flare is a little more technique orientated. So an inexperienced pilot might get the Omni to land a bit easier, I think the Safire2 actually has more flare power. They both have excellent openings, flight and landing characteristics. Contact the Chicago Service Center for a demo http://www.para-concepts.com/ I dont think you would be dissapointed in either canopy. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Arekas 0 #4 March 10, 2006 Thanks. Unhappily I can not get any Icarus demo now. I’m a little confused about Omni and Safire2 descriptions in ParaGear catalog. Why Omni is classified for intermediate or experienced pilots?
johnny1488 1 #5 March 10, 2006 Its more a reflexion of the two 7 cells Icarus offers, the Omni and the Omega. The Omega is more of a canopy for someone off student status, where the Omni is more responsive and more fun to fly. It is not in a catagory of a Crossfire2 (ie HP elliptical) but it is more high performance than the Omega. If someone was confident in jumping a Safire2, I would have no prolem giving them an Omni. If someone was leary of jumping a Safire2, I would lean more towards giving them an Omega. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" And very responsive as well.
 Peej 0 #11 March 10, 2006 QuoteI'd vote for 9 cell. I'd agree. I've flown a 150 Safire 2 and at the moment i have a 135 Safire in my container. Both are tremendously fun to fly, are very responsive and they open nicely too. imo the Safire 2 is a great intermediate canopy and if you want to learn to swoop you can't go wrong with one of these. The toggle stroke to flare is a little deeper than PD's canopies but imo this canopy has awesome flare power. Never having flown an Omni i can't offer any opinions there. edited to add, at your wl the Safire 2 will be zippy for sure.
