Gawain 0 #1 March 3, 2008 http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/up/player/popup/?cl=6764062 The text I saw was as follows: QuoteA Lufthansa flight carrying 131 passengers narrowly escaped disaster during a weekend landing attempt in gale force winds near Hamburg, Germany. The Airbus A320 landed safely on the second attempt. I'm guessing those pilots tied one on after that day was over!! So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! ZeG 0 #5 March 3, 2008 That was one hell of a hairy landing attempt Lucky that they were able to pull it off
shermanator 4 #6 March 3, 2008 ohhhh, that brings back some flashbacks!! Was on an otter that attempted that a few times. on the go around, i could see the wing inches from the ground. finally had to go to a different airport. Funny thing was, I think the TI's were more scared than anyone else on the plane CLICK HERE! new blog posted 9/21/08 CSA #
JSBIRD 1 #7 March 3, 2008 Poor crosswind control by the PIC. As he transitioned from crab to slip, he felt he had it made, then 'relaxed' and allowed the upwind wing to rise. Classic crosswind landing error, that as a former CFI I used to see all the time, but I'm sorta surprised to see that kind of flying from an ATP level pilot. DickMcMahon 0 #9 March 3, 2008 I think landings like that happen more often than we'd like to think. A few weeks ago I was on a commercial flight from Denver to Portland landing in high winds. The plane dipped right & left several times as we approached touchdown with the left wing coming pretty close to touching the ground. (Too close for my comfort, anyway.) We had a cool pilot, however, who was able to level it out at the last second.

shortyj 0 #12 March 4, 2008 I agree, ATC should have had them land at a different airport, or at least a different runway. I wonder how many puke bags were filled gross I am eating i shouldn't have wrote that Playtime is essential.
JSBIRD 1 #13 March 4, 2008 The steady crosswind wasn't nearly as bad as the gusts...otherwise, the aircraft wouldn't have held runway alignment as well as it did on the climbout.
