Mailman Busted

Recommended Posts

So i got a couple letters the other day and noticed the lower left corner was torn off...of both letters...not a huge tear, but enough to raise my suspicion. Today i see the mailman about to put 2 letters in my box, he picks em up, looks in the corner, then puts them in the box. I thought that was a lil strange so i look at my roomates envelopes...and sure enough, the lower left corner is torn on both of those too. So i go to the post office and file a report and an "investigation" is underway...whatever. I just figured i'd remind all of you that during the holiday times, dont send money in the mail, people are dirtbags:|

Thanks for the heads-up. Hope he gets what he has coming to him. I work as an Event Registrar and handle several major events every year. You'd probably be suprised at the number of people who send hundred's dollars of cash just inside a piece of notebook paper. :S:S I don't even like sending checks in the mail!

Crazy...I just got an envelope with the bottom lower corner torn off, too. :|

The post office placed it into another envelope with an 'apologies that your mail was damaged'. It was an offer from a Ford dealership...nothing I would think anyone would want to 'look into'.

Maybe you are jumping the gun. The United States Postal Service wouldn't allow those types of people to work for them. Suppose he/she was delivering mail and accidently caught the letter on the corner of his/her bag. Not wanting to deliver damaged mail, they diligently checked the envelopes. Yeah, thats the ticket. Unfortunately we can't stomp their m-f-ing asses! i'm sure that would stop the flow.

*cough* Well, my mother just retired from 30 years of carrying mail. I could tell you some stories about her co-workers.

Like the one that was fired for opening people's porn magazines. They came in brown envelopes, but this guy would open them and read them, then "later" deliver them. This, of course, is classified as a felony, so the Post Office fired him, which beats the heck out of jail time. But the Postal Employee's union got him his job back, on the grounds that it was the first time he got caught.

Like the many postal workers that stole Netflix movies just to take them home for their DVD collections.

Like the fact that most carriers with business routes take "Christmas money" from the businesses. This is, of course, also a felony, because it constitutes bribing a government worker. And, of course the better the tip, the better your mail delivery ...

The post office isn't the FBI. You can work there without a high school diploma, or even a GED. Your boss will have no previous management experience, much less a degree. There are a lot of good people that work there, but they tolerate a lot of corruption within the ranks.

I'm all for education and not trying to get this sent to SC...but in light of events from Columbine to NIU, a degree doesn't indicate any sense of sanity.

Once I was late for work and handed a mail carrier all my bills with stamps and return addresses visible. NOBODY got paid and I heard about it within 2 weeks. All creditors wanted me to stop the checks ($25 a pop) and write a new one. I made a complaint at the PO and they 'never found the carrier'..yeah..right. I could see 1 or 2 envelopes getting lost..but ALL of them? I want my (last month + 2 cents rate for all of them) back! The only way to get something out is to go IN the PO and stand on line and get a receipt..its either $1.39 or $19.00..no middle man.

I'm surprised they let some people work without an eye patch and a parrot on their shoulder...for REAL!~~April

LYONS, Colo. - The Denver office of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service has apparently cracked a theft case involving hundreds of DVDs being stolen from the U.S. Mail.

During a two-month period last year, hundreds of DVDs intended for Netflix customers in Lyons, Colorado never arrived at their destinations. Investigators say the problem stopped after postal inspectors caught two postal workers red handed.

Andrew Rivas, spokesperson for the U.S. Postal Inspectors office in Denver told 9News, "at the time we were receiving these complaints it was among the largest reported losses in the United States from Netflix."

Netflix is a mail-in movie rental service based in San Francisco, California. According to court records, between January and March of 2005, 503 Netflix DVD movies destined for Lyons, Colorado were reported missing or stolen. Netflix told investigators the loss represents 23.33 percent of all DVD movies mailed to that postal area.

In March, a Lyons Post Office employee, Gloria Flores of Longmont, was arrested when postal inspectors caught her with 6 stolen DVDs as she left work. Court records show at the time, inspectors thought Flores was responsible for all the thefts that were occurring.

But in April, Netflix again complained about thefts in the Lyons area. So the US Postal Inspectors went undercover. In late July, they started following a contract postal driver, Karen Durante of Loveland. In a court records obtained by 9News, the investigators write that they observed Durante leave the Lyons Post Office and drive away to a gas station about a mile away. There, they report that they watched her throw away 33 Netflix envelopes, and one Blockbuster envelope. None of the envelopes were addressed to her and all of them were empty.

In October, Flores pleaded guilty to a felony count of embezzlement for the 6 DVDs found in her car. She was given three years probation. Postal inspectors wouldn't comment on the status of Durante's case, saying it was still under investigation.

a kid who lived down the street from me got busted for stealing money from the mail he was supposed to deliver.
he, his brother and father all worked for the post office. he and his brother got tired of delivering the circulars on Wed's and started stashing the things in thier fathers garage attic since all three of them lived within a block of the father it was easy to do this.. then they progressed into stealing money and stuff from mail.
These guys never once trashed the evidence but stored it all in the dads garage attic..

well walmart employees where wondering why the circulars where not getting out to thier houses and said something to the management of walmart and then that made the postoffice inspectors desk and then the investigation got these guys.

They went to jail, dad although did not steal anything was fired and lost his retirement because his property was used in the crime and they found that he could have known what was going on and did not want to report his sons.

Sanity has nothin' to do with it. In most professional settings, a manager will have a degree of some sort. That's just the norm - doesn't mean they're sane :D

But not so at the Post Office. They promote managers from inside their own ranks. And their ranks have plenty of people that haven't even completed high school. I tell kids that have dropped out of school - it's a pretty decent place to work if you don't have any education. Good benefits, union, federal protection, and some day, you might even get to drive the short bus.

Man, I can't imagine stealing a cheap movie or 6 and threatening a lifelong career with decent pay and benefits. What kind of moron raised these people?

I guess I'm just getting jaded by all of these "parents" who spend ABSOLUTELY NO TIME with their kids, never discipline them, and stand up for them every time they screw up. Some idiot kills or rapes some neighbor kid, and the media interviews the mom who says "but he is such a GOOD boy!" Yea, I'm taking a leap here, but where are peoples morals?
