Saving lives with your computer.

Same here. It's running all the time, using spare cpu cycles. I use windows default screen saver, which just gives a blank screen (other screen savers eat cpu cycles.

No problems, glitches, or crashes to report on Windows 2000 SP3

It's not perfect, but it seems quite solid. I ran it on my laptop for awhile and did some reading before I installed it on my editing machine. It has been running on both computers without a hiccup. On the other hand, there have been reports of problems on some other computers. Especially Win98. Lew's mp3 player software made it shutdown, also (she's on XP Pro). She was able to restart it, but just a sign it's not in its "own little world" inside your computer. I think it's a "you don't know until you try. Linux and Win2000Pro seem to be the platforms with no problems, if that's a factor for you. The "no-frills" console version is the most stable on windows and the Mac - if you have Win98, you may want to run that. It doesn't give you the pretty pictures that'll impress your coworkers and evoke the occasional flashback, but it works.

We had a big jump in production last night! Going from 22 to 36 in my last/first look! Team ranking went from 2700 something to 1985! The stats page: http://folding.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/teampage?q=31515

Welcome to the new team members, and those still working on your first units - hang in there. Remember we are working to cure diseases, including Alzheimer's, and Mad Cow Disease - which may keep some of us jumping longer.

My employers and I just got kinda drunk at lunch... and when I got back, I set it up on 4 more processors, two of which are production servers...

Big hardware is cool... :)

LOL... Yes, keep us updated on how that works out.

So long as the powers-that-be don't mind you tapping their idle cycles - go for it!

And if it's still okay - tell them "Thank You" from the rest of the team.

that's funny... i've heard stories of someone who had computer problems and it took a while to figure out that she thought "shutting down" was turning off the power strip. she was doing this while applications were open and everything...

tell her it's better for the computer to leave it running anyway. (at least for Win2000 and beyond)

Yep, that's rght about W2000. Micro$oft finallly fixed most of the memory leak problems they had in NT. The only time I shut down is for a hardware change. Pretty much pissed me off to see no power light on the case when I got home.

Update: 392/400, almost there. Hope I get a smaller work unit this time! :S

You made it!

I stay away for a weekend, and I check in to find we're now 21 strong, and team ranking is 1034!

If we do this 1823 more times, we'll be the number one team! (And if everyone else stops scoring.)

We should make it into the top 100 in about 6 months!!!!!

We need more help from everyone else at dz.com

Some of those things take ages, I've got 3 PCs, my home one and 2 at work, two of them have been running for 4 days without completing one unit.

It's possible it's faster. The #/100, #/200, or #/400 refers to frames. The number of frames does not tell you the actual size of the work unit. Some 200 frame work units are larger than some 400 frame work units (the largest ones are 200 frames). If you look at the "Project Number" on your protein, you can cross-reference it here to find its "credit" value, which indicates its actual size.

Someone should tell Sangiro to put a blurb about this on the main page.

Why don't we put up a prize for the top 10 dz.commers in a month or something? Any ideas? Girls?B|

Skydiving is easy. All you have to do is relax while plummetting at 120 mph from 10,000' with nothing but some nylon and webbing to save you.

I need a new fan. Trust me, I really do. But after I buy one and install it, hopefully I'll be able to join you.
