Should people that no longer Jump still post here?

Don't care how many years someone has in the sport. If they aren't current, they have no business on a big skydive. It's not about politics, it's about safety.

Don't be such a spoilsport Bytch...sometimes ya want to skydive like your life depends on it, and POPS loads (or dz.com loads, I imagine) are the perfect scratch for that itch. :D

Once a jumper, always a jumper!

I have not done a skydive in a year. Looks like i will not be jumping for about another year either with my vet bills coming in.

However, my business is Gear sales and skydiving is my life and it is killing me not being able to get to a dropzone.

I'm with you!
Does that mean i should not be able to post in these forums?

Bonfire 2 - "usta jump"

Bonfire 3 - "wanna be"

Bonfire 4 - "related to someone that jumps - active"

Bonfire 5 - "related to someone that 'usta jump'"

Bonfire 6 - "related to a 'wannabe'"

And... for the record - would we have to change user names? If we do, I'm calling "hasbn2" (cuz hasbn1 is taken and it's better to be a hasbn than a never was)

Since you seem to be the second one who misunderstands what I was trying to say...

1. About the Bonfire? I couldn't care less. I consider it to be DZ.coms asylum. I pity the wardens and the head of department ... Just as long as the loonies are kept out of the 'topical' parts of the forums it is fine with me for I only come here when I have absolutely nothing better to do...

2. It was offered as a mere observation that people who 'used to jump' saw it fit on another social website to start a special interest group on this 'used to jump' aspect of their lives.

3. Since I'm able to share a drink and polite conversation with people that never even saw a parachute (and in fact myself never bring up what I do for a living when I meet someone for the first time), on the rare occasions when I read the bonfire and even rarer occasions that I post there, I'm no elitist either.

4. Having said that it beats me why IRL someone would hang out at a DZ if not to jump out of airplanes. Most of the time you find yourself in a worn out hangar somewhere at the end of the civilised world. Often the surroundings remind one of a refugee camp. No bathrooms to speak of. Noisy airplanes.
Beats me why one would spend free time there if not to jump or pack or do jump related things.

Doesnt mean I want to drive those that seem to be having the time of their life there off with a stick....

Glancing at only a few of the responses, then going back to look at other posted subjects, this is one of the very few subjects that have anything to do with skydiving in SC...I get a kick out of reading responses from know it all smart ass fools to the curious...it's all good.

Part of me agrees with your assessment...but on the other hand, back in the 70's there use to be this really cool old guy that would come out to the dz about every other weekend, beer cooler in tow.

He never jumped, never cared to...told us all we were nuts.

Someone asked him once at a safety meeting, why he always came out...he said-

"I don't like to skydive, but I like the kind of people that like to skydive"

Might have been the 'fog' of the meeting...but it made sense at the time. ;)

Then again (pleased to meet you Jewels) one cannot help to wonder what it is that a Student with 4 jumps has to contribute to a SKYDIVING site that forces her to make more than three times as many contributions in one year than a DZO / instructor / tandemmaster in 6 years?

You type faster than me? All words of profound wisdom, I guess?

B|:):)

Pleased to meet you, too!

You must be just counting numbers of posts and not paying attention to where they're made. My posts are largely reserved for Bonfire or the Women's Forum (where my skydiving expertise doesn't matter), or questions (in the subject-specific forums where it does). I try to keep my posts appropriate for the forum and appropriate to my level of experience. Those DZO/instructor/tandem masters that you're talking about are welcome to post as much as they like and to share as much of their wisdom as they want. I'm not threatened at all if they want to put up more posts than I do! :D

I'm not going around giving anyone skydiving advice but the site is actually a resource for people who might want to learn as well, even if it comes with the often-repeated caveat about asking your instructors. And, in case you wondered, I may only have four jumps but I fly head-down in the tunnel so I think I've at least earned a place in the community--and from your other posts, it sounds like you don't care, anyway. :))

Way to respond. Yes, I certainly think there is a place for all sorts of people here. I have a whopping six jumps, although I would have more if the weather would have cooperated the last month. I started reading and posting here after my first tandem as a way to explore the possibility of someone my age learning to skydive. The encouragement I found here was invaluable and I still appreciate all the feedback I get. Those of us with only a few jumps are able to help each other as well as get help from those who are actively jumping and those who aren't currently jumping for whatever reasons. Overcoming fear, for example, is a topic that many have posted on in response to newbies need for reassurance and help.

I also appreciate the offers I have had from people around the country to meet, greet and jump (oh, brave souls,.....you have no idea what you say....)
The people who jump/have jumped/want to jump are a big part of the lure and addiction of skydiving for me.

Why would someone who doesn't have a red star post to a skydiving forum they don't financially support?

Keith, This sentence stood out for me. I just want to add that just because someone does not have a red star next to their name does not mean they do not contribute financially. I make personal donations to HH and they're as much as a premier membership costs. I just like the freedom to make those donations at my will.

Tracking way the fuck out past 'em (and dodging them along the way) seems to be my survival mode. :D

For Gods Sake WOMAN - it was a mere observation! GRRRRR... ;)

Hadn't noticed you were a tunnelflyer. so once again one can never say beforehand who is the student and who is the master. B|

(I'll be in a tunnel for the second time in a couple of weeks from now. Last time around I finally learned how to turn in place. But as luck would have it I HAD learned a few tricks before entering the tunnel and did manage to not make a complete arse of myself "in front of the kids"... Really funny BTW to be turning points and looking through the glas wall and see all the other skydivers from my DZ thinking "Geez, the old man can actually fall stable / straight down WITHOUT a passenger and a drogue" B|)

A forum is about a community.

I have started a forum on my website for people interested in wine & SA's winelands. Nothing much happening there yet, but I don't plan on making ANY income from the forum. That's what selling advertising space is for.. ;)

I'll be back up in the air one day. When I can afford it. :)
Does that make me a "shouldn't be posting here person?"

I feel like people who have skydived, enjoy(ed) it, should be welcome to be part of our little skydiving area. I mean plenty of people use this information for more knowledge about the sport, and the safety precautions that skydivers use. I'm sure there are people that check this site out before even going to make their first jump. How can one exclude them in this? I don't see how it can be fair...

...everyone in our sports makes a contribution, at least in my eyes. Whether you have 1 jump or 50 or thousands...

Just my thoughts!!!
