iPhone 6 months on

Recommended Posts

Now the iphone has been used for a while now and getting many hours of use and call time, How is it?

From when you first received it till now, what issues if any have you had with the gadget?

Does your iPhone still feel like it has alot more life in it?

I am interested in hearing about this phone as i think i might want one.

They are not in Australia yet as far as i know but i think i have heard it is easy to unlock and they seem a decent price on ebay ($600). My phone retails at $1200 and it has done me well but i think if they retail this phone at that price then it should feel like it has years left in it. I have had it for a year and love it and all the media and office capabilities it has but i dont think it has much life left in it and that is only a year later.
I got my phone free with my plan, seeing i cant do that in Australia yet, get it free with a plan, I I dont know if i should shell out $600 on one or not.

As the iphone does not have a slide out keyboard, what is it like using the browser and having to send out many replies to emails you get on the move?
Is this phone as great as a phone could be?

Edit: I just saw a tv show and on it there was a 3 minute scene where the main charcter was using his iphone for a segment. Total advertisement right. At the end of the 3 minute scene i just realised that the tvshow background music for that scene was also the iphone theme music. That is a pretty serious advert to just put in the middle of a tvshow.:D

In our area, AT&T (the only current iPhone provider) does not have very good reception (signal strength and coverage). The best coverage in the area, ironically, comes from the smallest and least known company (US Cellular). A colleague of mine got an iPhone for Christmas and took it back after only two weeks because of the poor reception.

Like it was said before the signal reception is not as good as I would like to, also this is the second phone they give me because of software issues, the screen freezes, or I can click to receive a call or make a call. Is a cool gadget but has it's problems.
There is no insurance for the phone so if you drop it, an has a dent they would not replac it even if is a software problem, I say this cuz mine has a little dent and it was said to me already, so my only choice is drop another $300 on a new one, really hate that

i don't have an iphone, but i do have and use my ipod touch a lot. it works as advertised, but it's not a laptop replacement. typing long replies on the touchscreen is probably not something you'll want to do, but sending off a quick reply is easy. the keypad works well even with my fat thumbs. the other features are just plain cool. video is sharp, carrying all your favourite pics around to show people is handy. the cover flow ipod is fun to play with as well. all i'm missing is the phone, the internet anywhere and the camera. i'll get an iphone when they're available in canada. also, as of about 15 minutes ago, you can get 16GB iphones and 32GB ipod touches!

I bought the iPhone straight away. I have no buyers remorse.

The keyboard takes about 2 weeks to get used to, but it is very functional. I find it as easy to use than my Blackberry. The phone quality is very good. I use mine for long conference calls (2 hours plus) and never have a drop or poor reception.

Internet is good as well, but I sometimes get slow responses depending on location. I don't have that problem if I am close enough to a hot spot to browse using wi-fi.

I really like the upgrade capability. Since most of the functionality is software, they can push improvements to you for free. Recently, they added multiple home screens, the ability to add internet shortcut buttons to the home screen, the ability to skip through movies by chapter, and a primitive GPS system to the maps.

I wish it would allow for corporate email, but I am hopeful that will come in the near future.

Probably less a capability problem and more a licensing one. I think Research In Motion (Blackberry) may have dibs on connections to Microsoft Exchange servers.

I too have an iPod Touch (16GB) and it is very similar to the iPhone. See what others have to say about the phone capabilities, but I can tell you that it is great for the Internet at an airport or at home while your on the couch. Sure it doesn't replace your laptop, but it is VERY functional with pop mail access (built-in) and the internet (Safari browser) is so easy to use. When I leave it in my car at night, it downloads all of my e-mails over my wi-fi signal so I can check them on my way to work in the morning (yes, I drive and e-mail:S). I also have it integrated into my BMW with a custom installed Dice adapter so I can control my iPod through with my steering wheel and radio controls. I typically have it with me wherever I go as it has a great calendar application (syncs with Outlook perfectly) and I use the notes application for my grocery list and things to do so I never forget my list at home. Oh, and if you don't have a GPS, it has really useful features from Google Maps that will get you where you need to go or is great for giving a friend directions on the fly.

It's one of those devices that you wonder how you managed to live without because it is so simple to use and amazingly useful in so many ways. Because the product is in the first stages of the product lifecycle, I am waiting until they release a 32GB version with 3G and some other extras...but for now, you could always upgrade your current iPod if you don't want to spring for a iPhone.

Keep in mind that even though the new iPhone is 16GB, it is really not that much space if you will have a lot of videos on it. Make sure you will be happy with the storage space before you buy! That's up to you to decide...

Hope that helps some...

I've been using mine since July and I wouldn't want to be without it. It's more like a small computer that does what most people do with their computers - internet, mail, calendar, media. The phone function is like an extra, but boy do I enjoy always-on internet via EDGE (which makes the iPhone IMHO superior to the iTouch. Visual voicemail is one of those things that every phone should have.
AT&T works just fine in downtown Cincinnati and most places I've been in the States, and EDGE is also fast enough for me. Doing casual surfing on my iPhone is still faster than on those medium-aged PC's they provide for graduate students in our department.
In terms of how well it's built I have never had or seen any electronic gadget that feels so well constructed and sturdy. The glass screen is still absolutely perfect, not the slightest scratch on that thing. I'm sure some people have had problems, but I have no reason to believe that this is a widespread issue. I know you're in Australia, and it'll be hard to get your hands on one, but make sure you find one and play around with it. It feels seriously unreal. Mine has a few mini-scratches on the aluminum because I haven't been using a case, but otherwise it doesn't feel 'used'. If you did have a problem with it, Apple's customer service is phenomenal in my experience (albeit it got a little worse ever since the iPod is so successful - it's in the volume, I'm afraid).
Most people won't need cell phone insurance. If you want to protect yourself against mechanical failure and make sure you get swift repairs, buy AppleCare. If you have homeowner's or renter's insurance, contact them and see if you can add line items. Most will do that, and you can insure one hundred dollars of value for about one or two dollars a year. Basically, if you pay 500 bucks for your phone, you can insure it that way for 20 bucks for the 24 month period you signed with AT&T.
There are a few quirks I wish were fixed (no copy and paste, no Flash support, etc.) but nothing that would be crucial, and all of it easily offset by everything this thing finally does right.
